I have been running an Audioquest Dragonfly off a 2012 Macbook Pro to a Nad d 3020 amp and getting some stunning sound however I am encountering some issues since upgrading to the new Macbook Pro 2016. The sound difference is pretty big between the two on account of the new machine sounds a lot worse. The only differing factor is I use a USB C to USB adapter between the Mac and the Dragonfly (the actual set up goes Mac, Jitterbug, Dragonfly, Amp).

I appreciate this may be a little specialist but would anyone be able to advise in the drop in sound quality and clarity? Could this all be down to a USB C adapter sitting between the Jitterbug and the Mac?

I've seen no comments about USB C as a sound source, whereas the older version was tried and tested. I'd ask Audioquest, as they are significant players in this market, and may have a cable they have developed.

I fail to see why anyone would ask that

Maybe because he doesn't know and is looking for help?

To the OP - no USB is not optical out.

He wasn't the OP, and I agree that it is a question that shows complete ignorance of the topic at hand. Maybe he meant to ask isn't there still an optical out hidden in the headphone output?

He can try to find out what sounds best and use that or try another adapter (how much can an adapter for a macbook pro cost?), i doubt he will sell his macbook pro an use the old laptop if he has it or buy the old good sounding laptop
