Hi,

I've just aquired an Audiolab 8000S integrated amp. I was told it was a UK version but I'm not so sure. Is there a reliable way to tell?

The serial no. isn't the normal Audiolab serial. It starts AH01 and then an 18 digit no. The speaker outputs are in 2 blocks of 2x2, not the staggered arrangement I've seen before.

Does it say "Made in England" on the back (bottom right) like so (this 8000S has the staggered speaker binding posts):

From another forum:

Assuming it's a 1998 model, then it should be an "F" serial number, ie 2xxFxxxx from memory. The last four digits give the lateness even further, so the closer it gets to the 2300 mark the newer it is.

I've bought and sold a few of these over the years, but these days an "F" reg can go for as little as £175 or as much as £250, so start from there. If it's not an F reg, the price drops accordingly as it's a 97 or ealier model. Not a reason to not buy it mind, my dad still has my old A reg. Might be worth giving theaudiocellar.co.uk a shout to give it a quick check out / service to make sure it lasts another ten years though
