I've got my old Audiolab 8000 out again, to listen to vynil, and need some floorstanders to match it. I originally had a pair of Mission 753 speakers (banished 10 years ago by gf) which matched it beautifully. What should I buy now? ...up to £1500.

Hi

I own the Proac Sudio 140MK2 slightly over your budget , I think it is a good option for you .

IMO. The Audiolab will need smoother sounding speakers, so I suggest:

- Kef R500

- Spendor A3 or A5

- Sonus Faber Toy Tower

- Vienna Acoustics Bach Grand (ex-dem)

From personal experience of the 8000 I would avoid any speaker that has a fatiguing nature. Try looking at Dynaudio, PMC GB1is (s/hand or ex-dem only now), Cnos suggestion of Kef 'R' series, Spendor A5 or perhaps Totem Arros (this is an iffy choice, as I'm not sure whether they'll go with Audiolab, but well worth an audition if you can find a dealer).

EDIT - Also worth seeking out Wharfedale Jade-5. A little over budget they may be the answer.

I listened to them with my Epos ES-11's then (1991). That was no bad combination at all. It sounded balanced but a bit dry. Maybe try Monitor Audio RX-6 or Audio Physic Yara (2nd hand), or Epos Epic-5 or Elan 30.

How about a pair of mission 752s(not freedom) you should be able to pick up a pair for not to much money .
