Hi - I hope I'm posting this to the right forum...? I've got a laptop capable of outputting surround sound via an HDMI output (Sony Vaio VPCSB19GG). I'd like to hook up a set of "surround" headphones I have but they have 3 stereo jacks! Does anyone know if it's possible to get a cable to convert from HDMI to 3 stereo jacks?

Thanks!

James

Not using a cable no, HDMI is digital, those RCA connections are for an analogue signal, so you'd need something that would convert the signal from digital to analogue. I don't know of any DACs that can do that from an HDMI connection, you'd probably need an AV amp for that.

You won't get a cable to do what you want, for the reasons The_LHC mentions above. You'll need a USB/external soundcard that has multi-channel analogue outs.

Oh yeah, that'd be cheaper!

yeah. I've got a Creative x-fi external usb sound card on my laptop and it has analog multichannel outs. so it would be a good solution for those headphones. it's pretty cheap too.

Buy a higher quality USB surround sound headphones is another option.

Never miss an excuse for an upgrade
