Hi all,

Seems to be the same speaker, except scm20 weights much more...

http://www.atcloudspeakers.co.uk/hi-fi/loudspeakers/classic-series/scm20/

http://www.atcloudspeakers.co.uk/hi-fi/loudspeakers/entry-series/scm19/

what are the differences between them?

The SCM20 belong to what could be called the 'classic' line of loudspeakers - speakers built more or less without compromise for studio use as well as domestic. The later SCM (7, 11, 19, 40) are more of a domestic product. While the mid/bass driver of both models share the same heritage, the rest of the speaker (crossover/HF unit etc) will be different.

Hi David,

do you have scm20 on demo? what is your opinion on them soundwise compared to scm19?

We don't at the moment. We don't even have the SCM19 on demo as we've sold off the whole range in anticipation of the forthcoming new SCM range.

The 'entry level' SCM (7, 11, 19) are an easier listen for most people as they're quite smooth. The 'classic' SCM (20 and above) are more ruthlessly revealing and are more of a 'warts and all' presentation, which may not be to everyone's liking, but that's for you to decide. If an album is recorded in a 'raw' way, that is how I like to hear it.

Hi krolikgena

SCM20's and SCM19 use the same SLMT Mid/LF drive unit. The main difference between these two monitors is that SCM20's use a superior HF unit (from Seas). As good a SCM20's are however i believe SCM19's offer even better VFM though.

Anyway we've had ATC's new curved SCM11 passive monitors in recently. The new curved SCM11 monitors incorporate the long and eagerly awaited ATC HF drive unit (SH25-76). ATC's goal was to have their own HF units offer levels of performance that were on par with their state of the art Original and Super Soft Dome mid range drive units. With their new SH25-76 HF unit I truly feel that ATC have achieved this goal. The lack of colouration, clarity, precision, power and the sheer naturalness of the sound reproduced by SH25-76 HF drive unit is remarkable. Wow

It took ATC nearly eight years to design and develop their HF drive unit but boy was it worth the wait
smiley-smile.gif

I hate to say it however feel the new curved SCM11's (with the incorporation of the SH25-76 and other improvements ATC have made) offer better overall performance then SCM19's.

All the best

Hi Rick,

so will there be a new curved scm19? or the update only covers 7 and 11 models?

anyway, money aside, do the scm19 have any benefit soundwise over scm20? except as i understand being a bit smoother in the treble. and what is the price difference?

thanks

Hi krolikgena

Yes, there will also be new curved SCM19 and curved SCM40 passive monitors which will also incorporate the SH25-76 HF unit.

No, SCM20's are ultimately better then SCM19's. SCM19's delivery is not quite a direct as SCM20's.

SCM19's RRP £1924 (Cherry), £2049 (Black)

SCM-20 SL Black £2943, Cherry / Walnut £3100, Yew / Rosewood £3322

All the best

I guess they're monitors, so not designed to look friendly in a living room (and they look worse with the grills on IMO.)

Is black the only finish? Any news of prices?

Hi Toyota man

We have all of the three new ATC products in stock (SIACD, curved SCM7 and curved SCM11's). Just to add the pictures on our site are those of our actual stock which you might also be interested to know are the first units to be made. I'll look into when the new curved SCM19's and curved SCM40's are likely to be available.

I would go for the 20s personally, based on my experience with the last generation SCM7/11/19 compared to the SCM10. Although not sure they are worth brand new at the new price.

If the difference between the 7 and 10 is similar to the 19 and 20 the main change will be in the treble, the previous generation tweeter is not the best IMO and the ONLY thing that I can think of about the range, that is not just about perfect. I found the treble to be a little splashy, on occasion and found the older Vifa unit in the SCM10 (and previous SCM20 models, which has the same crossover/treble unit as the 10, just the larger bass SL driver as in the 19) to be a much better match.

Hi Rick, is that correct or a typo? You have listed the 7 and 11 as cheaper in black than cherry but the 19 and 40 black are more expensive than cherry. Why is that, seems odd? Thanks.
