At last i managed to drag all my gear to a dealer and managed to listen to various speakers from ma bw roksan quad etc. Yes im sure plastic penquin will be pleased. I liked the bw 684 but my wife didnt saying they were too big the others dint really do it for me although the dealer did say i might like the monitor audio.rx 2 which he did not have in stock that day saying that the bass was as good as some fs though not obviously taking up the space. So in the mean time at least until.i can hear the rx2 ive decided to hang onto my rs1 but change the speaker cables and and speaker stands in the hope that it will tame the bright top end and maybe give me a bit more low end welly. The dealer i went to was ir didnt seem very helpful.as im sure.he wanted me to spend 700 odd on fs so again will ask for some more help on decent stands and cables as a cost effective upgrade that will tame the treble. Thanks again guys sorry for all the posts.just dont wanna make another expensive mistake.

imo don't think cables will change the sound particularly but you could try some thicker copper cables (I've tried silver and copper & diff. diameters). With a small standmount you just won't get the larger bass and welly your after unless you go for a larger cabinet and woofers. So seeing as you liked the 684's, I would persist and stand your ground, after all the systems not complete without the speakers you desire.

Disagree

Having owned the M/A RX2's and RX6's as well as demoing the B&W 684's A LOT the RX2's will REALLY surprise you

With the right electronics and cable the RX2's kick out bags of bass and power; it's superb, deep and very punchy bass that doesnt lose its rhythm at all...

Get them demo'd and thoroughly enjoy them ;)

I'm not going to go looking up exact dimensions but I would have thought that the RX2 on suitable stands would require more room than the B&W 684? In fact apart from being a bit deeper, they're probably not much bigger than your current RS1s!

I also suspect you're wasting your time & money chasing a fix through cabling/stands.

If you like the 684 then you need to work on the missus. Maybe see if you can get them on home demo. They may not look quite so big it situ or she may get used to them during the dem period. ;)

why don't you try s/h Dynaudio Contour 1.3 or Focus 140. I'm sure you'll be satisfied with the amount of bass and more importantly with its quality.
