Are there any other amps i should be considering alongside the Onkyo 805

Are there any other amps i should be considering alongside the Onkyo 805 that can offer HD Audio and the same flexibility in connections

I prefer Denon or Marantz. Got a Denon 3808 myself, very smart and you wont cook your hifi rack!.

Don't be overly worried about the heat issue. The Onkyo's are designed to run hot (and it saves on heating bills).

If you are after a system that is purely for AV surround, then the Onkyos are probably the best out there.... but if you want it to replace your stereo as well, then definately demo the Denon and Marantz receivers.

Seriously though, I agree on the AV vs musicality point. I don't find my Onk that great with music compared to some. Love it though! Great with films and that filled my needs.

On the heat issue, it's not as hot as I expected it to be given the warnings I've heard about it. Wasn't a problem for me as I can give it enough room to breathe. I was a leaning to Yamaha at first and after a few auditions I really thought I'd end up with that brand but the Onk took it for me when I heard it.

Try Arcam DiVA range, much much less features than Onkyo but music sounds better.

Erm, OP specifically asked for HD Audio and connectivity options - neither of which the Arcams currently offer (even if they are, along with the Marantzs, the best AV receivers for music).

True but I think you can still connect BlueRay player to Arcam using optical connections? So if he's after the sound he might be better of with Arcam.

But an optical connection doesn't give you HD audio.

well i ordered a black 805 and when it arrived it was silver and they had no black in stock so was refunded and then blew my money on a musical fidelity xray cd and dac v8 so now on hold so going to wait for the new 806 and a review of the new denon kit
