No, Lexus is a Toyota brand (luxury car division) - Japan.

I think the basic idea was to distance the brand a little for those US consumers who may still have had a less than comfortable relationship with buying Japanese.

Ditto Nissan/Infiniti and Honda/Acura.

I think when he became 'responsible for the techy bits' he added a few thousand to his total!!!

Understandable in some ways - but you can't hold a grudge forever, like us saying we won't buy anything made in the Fatherland.
 
I'm only buying British from now on. My plan is to get an allotment, sell vegetables and then buy an Ariel Atom.
