I have a couple of guitars but I don’t play for compassionate reasons. I also got sick of growing my fingernails, only to break them.

I suspect most audiophiles are not musicians, as audiophile speakers seem to be strongly voiced. And I’m not sure they would swallow the reviews: the amp produced succulent authoritative highs, a lush midrange, an absorbant bass, and good grip in the corners, especially in wet conditions. You know the nonsense.

Brussel Sprouts are vastly underrated.:D

Bill
Brussels sprouts are the vegetable of Beelzebub. When you arrive in hell, assuming you do, you will be greeted by a school dinner lady cackling over a gigantic cauldron filled with overcooked brussels sprouts. At school I was made to sit at the headmistress’s table at lunch, forced to eat sprouts, whereupon I would vomit.

Reminds me of a Pink Floyd song... If you don't eat your sprouts you won't get any pudding.

I doubt that many/most are. I play the bass with a degree of competence, but would definitely shy away from describing myself as a 'musician'!
12th Monkey, I think you're being self effacing. Since you play Bass with a level of proficiency, then in my humble opinion, you are undoubtedly a musician. Funnily enough, I too play Bass with a level of proficiency, but usually I think I'm useless at it.

Ironically, that should be 'fewer' mistakes. But only a proper SOB would point this out. Guess what that makes me?!

(I apologise humbly, without reservation and sincerely!)

Do you have understanding neighbours, or are you just careful when you practice?

I said my drumming improved with practice .... not my grammer :)

Just lucky where I live, the room I use is the furthest point from the nearest neighbour and there's a spare plot of land between me and the one the other side.

I use an e-kit though for a lot of the day to day practice, only time my neighbour heard that was when I bought a 2k watt PA system for gigs and thought I'd test it's full capability :)

From memory I believe the expression WTF was used :ROFLMAO:

There does not seem to be a consensus that musicians have a predeliction to be HiFi enthusiasts. To date I have not heard from famous musicians such as Ritchie Blackmore, or any one from Rolling Stones to have a burning heart for let say Naim Audio or specialist valve amps. In fact I can't name any one from contemporary music, or Classical music or from any other genres music who have expressed their love for their HiFi components. The closest I got was from actual reviewer who reviewed ATC SCM 40's and visited ATC headquarters in Gloucetershire and just saw or heard that Chris Rea just collected his repaired ATC SCM11 speakers (I actually got excited that someone famous actually listens to ATC SCM11..!) Ofcourse many famous music clients have recorded music using 'studio' ATC speakers in the actual studio which is not the same to a voluntary hobby. I have a friend who composes Classical music and knows all there is to music composition but gets bored stiff with any thing to do with HiFi. He is interested in the actual music and not 'how' it sounds...

Although singer, song writer Jacob Collier doesn't use them for listening and more for recording songs, he loves his Kii Three's, saying its the best sound. I think he got given them 😮What Hifi Kii Audio Three review

I had been thinking about starting a thread like this for a while but also figured someone had already beat me to it and of course I was right! I've been playing guitar since about age 12. I've never gotten super serious with it but it continues and I always pick it up every now and then. I own a few guitars and a few amps. I have an American Strat, a Gibson Lespaul, a Martin acoustic, an el cheapo Fender acoustic, a Mesa Boogie ElectraDyne 1x12 combo, and a Marshall DSL40c. I try to play piano a little bit but that's proven more difficult for me.

Snap 😎 Sort of. I gave up chasing dreams of getting paid to make music about 10 years ago, but it’s still one of my favourite things to do with friends.

I used to have Piano lessons until aged 14. I got to Grade 6. (Royal School of Music) I also took basson lessons and got to Grade 5 (Royal School of Music) I played a tenor recorder as well in an ensemble. I was a choir boy in our local Church choir and was proficient at reading music. In addition I played in the school orchestra, and then everything went pear shaped at school because I was a distinctly middle class, well spoken child thrown into a horrible comprehensive Scholl in the middle of one of the roughest housing estates in Chelmsford.
It was truly horrendous. There was a group of hard as nails bullies who me and my twin brother really were not equipped to handle. We tried but my music, education and attitude suffered.
I picked up a bass guitar at about 19 and didn't study seriously until I was in my 40s. Now I always keep a jazz style bass, having been through lots and lots including a beautiful American Fender. I now have a FGN (Fujigen) Boundary bass, made in Japan. A jazz type bass with a slightly modern twist to its styling. I love this bass. I use an Eden Terra Nova class D, Neodymium speakered 220 watt combo.
I think it helps one to appreciate the skill involved in music and to recognise very talented musicians when one plays an instrument.
However, this is meant in no way whatsoever, to imply that non musicians, do not recognise musical talent in others.
I mainly listen to classical music now, having rediscovered it about 5 years ago. I absolutely prefer classical now most of the time. I also appreciate very much, some late 60s rock bands. Motown, Jazz Fusion, Big Band Jazz, Funk and Disco type stuff. I hope I haven't steered this thread away from the original post, and the writers intentions. Now, I'll keep quiet.
