Hi

after loading a CD into my Solo Mini, I've just noticed that the motor (I'm not a techie so don't know the proper terminology but I hope you catch my meaning) can quite clearly be heard running while the disc is playing. I have to be quite close to the unit to pick this up (within a metre or so) but I can't remember hearing it before.

This doesn't seem right to me. The Mini is a high quality bit of kit and isn't cheap. I'm pretty sure it must have developed a fault. I've tried playing a few CDs, and the motor niose (spinning sound) is consistently present.

Any advice at all folks? The unit is about 18 months old so out of warranty.

drooper:The unit is about 18 months old so out of warranty. You sure about that? Arcam kit usually comes with either 2 or 5 year warranty, depending on the kit. I'm pretty sure the Solo Mini has a 2 year warranty!!!

Cheers for the replies folks. I've only just noticed this, and was a bit surprised. I appreciate that there are moving parts in the unit, but I hadn't heard this before.

I've emailed Arcam, so I'll see what (if anything) they come up with.

I have to say, though, I can fault little else about the Mini. It's a superb little performer (with B&W speakers).

*BUMP*

Just a quick update.

Arcam have responded to my email. They advise that there will be some sound from the unit (spindle motor and servo) that is likely to be just audible from within a metre range. They suggested that I take the system into the dealer for comparison with a stock equivalent if necessary. If there seems to be excessive noise, they'll repair it under warranty.

On reflection, the noise is hardly bothersome, and, as manicm suggests, does seem to vary with different CDs.

Cheers for the responses folks

Drew
