I have just received a Solo Mini from T'Missus as early birthday present and I'm needing a pair of speakers for a small room approx 7" by 13"- long and narrow. To make matters worse I really need the speakers to sit on my computer desk but still want good hifi speakers. Any ideas please?

AVI Neutron IV secondhand or ProAc Tablette Reference 8 (Signatures) secondhand. These are both far far better than new £100 - £200 speakers and small too.

Depends how much you want to spend and how small you need them to be. If you need very small and under £200, go down to your local Sevenoaks store and audition some Monitor Audio R90 speakers - they are essentially part of the Radius speaker package but will do a lovely job with your Arcam Solo. They are miniature traditional bookshelfs, very well built and surprisingly powerful. I got mine for £180 ex demo (normally £250).
