The Airport Express (assuming that's the one you mean) has high levels of jitter which causes problems for some DACs. I guess that the Arcam is more fussy than the Cambridge.

This sounds like a streaming issue and momentary drop out, possibly caused by a process on your computer as you stream, or possibly limited bandwidth if there is already a lot of traffic on the network.
I have a similar probleem with airport express optical connected to the Arcam IRdac.
It plays for 20 - 30 seconds clean and then disturbs for a milisecond. The IRdac's relay disconnects.
I don't have this issue using ATV3.
It's highly disturbing, the irdac is pratical unusable on the ae.
The Apple Airport Express does not produce dropouts when connected to my HiFi directly by phono, but going through the optical link from the Apple hub to the Arcam unit and then into the hifi the interruptions are so frequent as to make the setup useless. Arcam customer relations blame the Apple unit. So what is the best wifi server or hub to replace the apple Air Express and make a good connection to the Arcam ir-DAC?
