Some of you may have seen my previous thread regarding my recent acquisition of a DV88 and my pondering as to how it would stack up against my current disc spinner the CD72T.

Well to put it simply, it trounced it! The DV88 was superior in every respect and the differences were both significant an immediately apparent: the soundstage had attained a new and obvious depth, the bottom end was much more prominent and powerful, timbres were more accurate and better articulated, detail significantly improved as did imaging... basically everything is better!
to elaborate on the imaging factor... the DV88 handled bussier pieces with greater ease than the CD72, offering up all the infomation in an accessable way and the centre of the image was improved through greater seperation of the instruments. background vocals were clearer and seemed more forward in the mix than the CD72.
for the 100 quid i paid for this DVD player i am absolutely delighted with its performance... and i havent even watched a movie yet!!!

Wow that's quite amazing considering it's set-up to play DVDs! Were you using the standard stereo RCA outputs? I havn't heard any other disc players on my system apart from the CD73T, but it sounds good to me!

And you paid £100 for it! What a deal!

I'm surprised as I tested my DV79 (£1,000) against my CD92 (£900) and the CD92 walked it.

hughes, yeah standard RCA connections used.

joel, to me your results arent too surprising as the cost of the CD92 is very similar to that of the DV79. remember that my CD72 is a sub 400 quid player and the DV88 is a 900 quid player.
you may also be interested to know that when comparing the two units, the CD72T had the advantage of an aftermarket mains cable. i have yet to test this mains lead with the DV88. I used the same IC for both players during the comparison.

for me the only downside of the DV88 is the loading time for discs and the fact i cant choose track numbers with the remote... still i can put up with that for the sound it offers!!!
