Arcam AVR 280 at £400?

Seems like a bargain. I have a Viera 1080i plasma, Gallo sub/sats, Sky HD and an old Pana DVD/HDD recorder. Will probably get Blu-Ray in due course, but no rush.

 

Should I choose a Yamaha 763 ahead of the Arcam?

Sorry, this post must have got overlooked on Sunday. The AVR280 was a very good receiver in its day (I've run one at home for some time), but it doesn't decode all the new high-definition audio formats on Blu-ray.

So if you are going to get a Blu-ray player in the future, it probably makes sense to get the Yamaha as it will handle the new audio formats and you won't have to worry about them being decoded in the player.

Does the AVR280 not have multichannel inputs? If it does, as long as your blu-ray player has multichannel outputs, you'll have your HD formats. I believe the AVR350 is available for around £600 which seems like an even better deal to me.
