Max - that PM7000 I think might predate the PM7200 - maybe worth a quick Google on it; it could be "dynamite".

..

im looking forward to hearing it , the guy said its a lovely warm sound , almost like a valve amp (whatever one of them is

) , might be just the ticket with my lively rx6s

maxflinn:an opinion on the a28 from pp and mp would be nice guys if you pick this up ? im very tempted ...

Sorry, Max not heard any of the new FMJ range apart from the A18. In addition to your comment about most A85s are UK mainland only, I've found one which has a "Buy it Now" price of £375 or "make an offer". They state UK or EU countries only. Maybe worth a punt...

That seems a bit pricey. I only paid £285 for mine.

I checked the listings of the guy who sold me his P85. His A85 went for £225 and his CD72 for £99.

This one could have the optional phono stage though, that'd bump the price slightly.

if it is a 7200 it is a beautiful sounding class a/b amp, it is approx. 95 watts output, and approx 25 watts in class a mode, it is a sweet and warm sounding amp, if listening at low levels it sounds slightly better in class a mode, it is only subtly better not night and day, it also runs very warm so needs plenty of ventilation

its the marantz pm7000 .. have to say im looking forward to hearing it ...

hmmm , so far it sounds very like the pm6003 .. very similar , not sure the extra 50 watts are making any difference that i can hear ..

matthewpiano:I reckon it would be a sideways move at best Max. You were on the right track with Arcam IMO.i agree mp, its too similar to what ive got , and it loses composure a bit with high frequencies when turned up ..

its very big too , id have to rearange things to accomodate it , na , its a non runner ...

but which arcam ? the a28 seems very good value at e500 ? the a85 pp highlighted is a bit dear , but i could get a friend to bid ..

whats better folks , a85 or a28 ? opinions ?

I haven't heard the A28 unfortunately. Like PP I've only heard the A18 from the current Arcam range and the A28 is supposed to be quite a bit better than that.

been listening to this pm7000 for a few hours now , its quite good really , almost the same as the 6003 , but one surprising thing is that it seems to sound better at low volumes , i wonder if this is because of the extra power ??

i can have this amp for e100 , very cheap really , but i guess theres no point as im buying the a28 on tuesday . i keep thinking the marantz is great value though ..

Max

If you can afford the Marantz AND the Arcam there is no harm in having a couple of amps to satisfy those different moods but if buying the Marantz would put the Arcam out of reach I'd say be patient and wait until Tuesday.

im pretty sure now that any harshness im hearing is because of my room , i could keep the marantz , and buy a nice big rug
emotion-55.gif
, and it wont cost me a penny , hmmm
emotion-15.gif

Have I ever mentioned Sansui's admittedly vintage amps by any chance...?

maxflinn:...almost the same as the 6003...
"Almost the same" - aka "a sideways step"? In my book that equals a wasted ?100.

Don't forget that the Arcam offers better sound now (IMHO), and the option to upgrade to a bi-amp setup in the future...
emotion-5.gif

ok i sold my marantz , and didnt take up the option of the other one , which coincidently nearly gave me 3rd degree burns when i lifted it up
emotion-3.gif
, so , afaik cloney audio are closed till tuesday , ill ring them then and buy the arcam , it comes highly reccomended by many whfi gurus
emotion-4.gif
, gets some great and some ok reviews , its quite modern looking , its a fair price considering what theyre going for online , and of course it should pair lovely with my speakers , thanks for your advice as usual guys
emotion-21.gif

ps .. and how could i forget , it can be bi-amped , er , oh yea thats when i have a power amp , hmmmm
emotion-5.gif

maxflinn:...it comes highly reccomended by many whfi gurus...
Not sure "recommended by many whfi gurus" is 100% accurate - "recommended by the WHF? Arcam fanboys" is arguably more apt?

Do you have currently have bi-wire spkr cable?

no , just regular chord silverscreen 6th , should i get them to send me some with the arcam ??
