Hi there. Went to airplay Luther from iPad onto Apple TV last night and the screen displayed a white USB with the iTunes icon above it.

I understand that this means that it is needing reset and the the procedure to do it. (Providing i get it to work!!) I have the USB cable.

If I carry out this procedure will that mean I will not be able to jailbreak the Apple TV??. I am still planning on jail breaking just not got round to it yet.

Has anyone used any of the jail breaking services where you send your Apple TV away and it comes back with software installed??

thanks

john

Jailbreaking is an absolute doddle on the ATV2, I wouldn't pay someone to do it. Since you need to hook up to a computer anyway, you may as well jailbreak now.

You are correct, you do need to stop iTunes from updating to the latest software. Do you know the software version of your Apple TV? 5.3 I think is the latest version that will jailbreak, but it has issues with Plex. XBMC is fine on 5.3.

Season pass to jailbreak...

Then use Nito TV to get XBMC

http://nito-installer.software.informer.com/1.0/

very easy and free :)

started installing firecore, took a while then came up with: failed with reason: file system patches failed.

There are a number of things to try in this thread

http://forum.firecore.com/topic/4010

i would avoid teathered jailbreak as it's lots of faff and it lowers the resale value of your atv

Thanks Paul. Will have a look into that. I was carrying out the download from the download folder and not the hard disk. Whether that will resolve the issues. I am not good with computers/files/folders etc. if I ever want to do anything technical I need to google at length first.

Thanks

john
