Depends what u want to do.
If u just want to rent tv episodes or stream apple-format music, or the rest of u gadgets are apple then apple tv would seem reasonable.
However if u want a full-blown media player that plays a wide variety of video formats on your network - for example dvd rips, home videos, internet content, as well as playing a wide variety of music formats then you would be better off looking at something like a Lacinema or playonhd, popcornhour, wd tv live etc.
Appletv for itunes basically.
