I recommend listening to The Cult latest two.
Choice of Weapon and Hidden City.
Ian Ashbury can't hit the highs he could 20 years ago.
But his vocals work well with their new material.

Nice list. Had a listen yesterday. All that talk about heavier music made me change my setup and put Tannoys on my main system as the Roksans are mainly jazz speakers and heavy stuff just doesn't sound right on them. Since I'm not willing to move my Arcam downstairs I am now looking for an amp for the Roksans as the pairing with Onkyo is way too bright. Should just about manage it if not I'll start a new thread.

Like you say it's difficult to recommend many modern releases. I'd have to go back 10-15 years so not as far as songs from your list.

Try these two if you've not listened to them (previously mentioned in this thread). These should have just enough good playing and great vocals

"Blackbird" from 2007 "Blackbird" by Alter Bridge

"Beautiful Mourning" from 2007 "The Blackening" by Machine Head

On top of that if you're like me into a bit more "wacky" music on the heavier side I'd suggest

"The Pot" from 2006 "10,000 Days" by Tool

"B.Y.O.B" and/or "Cigaro" from 2005 "Mezmerize" by System of a Down (!!!WARNING!!! people find this album very strange, I love it)

Living in the past! There's lots of good new bands out there. Raveneye are on tour this month and Blues Pills next month. Skam tour in November. Support new music or it will die out.

As for powerful singing, Rival Sons have the best vocalist in the business. Currently supporting Black Sabbath, so tickets are a bit pricey, even if you can get one. Good instrument playing is Dan Patlansky on guitar. Nobody anywhere near him for live playing.

some stuff is thrash heavy on my list but some is just metal rock music . Should change the name of this thread recommendations . I did try to listen to machine head but found it leaning towards death metal vocals . The cult I do have some of there stuff like ...... do not fear the reaper which is a classic .

Other bands I like are over kill , Annilhilator , Avantasia , Candlemass very much like Black Sabbath I think , final axe , grand magus , iced earth , iron fire , Jorn , Led Zeppelin , guns & roes , Iron Maiden , manowar , megadeth up to countdown to extinction which I thought was very good album , metal church , pantera , Sebastian Bach , skid row , Xentrix

This year I have seen AC/DC, rainbow and Bad Company, so I live in the past at times, we all do. Just be a little bit more open minded about the current stuff. Best of all, some of the new bands are really cheap for tickets. Almost all of them are under £20, Raveneye are £10, Skam are £5. Even better, you can get down the front, up close and personal, if you so wish. Normally you can meet the band afterwards. Give it a go.

Ok I got my copy of Metallica new album today

I ended up buying the deluxe version which has 3 cds not sure why as the first disc has only 6 tracks on it

And it's only 36 minutes long and for a minute I thought is that it ...... ? all I am going to get on the new album but the other tracks are on disc 2 *wacko*

disc 3 has some cover songs and some live classic Metallica songs

verdict MMMMmmmmm ... there are some good songs but nothing like old school Metallica I felt the album is well recorded for a metal album and the drumming is amazing on it . The cover songs are good a specially the Iron Maiden track from Iron Maiden very first album .

do not get me wrong I am glad I brought it as there are some good songs .*smile*

Don't forget that their concert tonight is being streamed live.

Wasn't aware :)

Thanks for the heads up

It's also on YouTube, so may be repeated for those getting on late.

Thanks again, it was great. Not seen all of it as my son's poorly but what I've seen was very good. Hammett and Ulrich were superb! The venue must've been a nightmare for sound engineers but it was produced really well.

The Phantom Flan Flinger makes a guest appearance at the end. Bring back Tiswas!!!

Nice :)

By the way had a decent skim through the new album on Spotify and must say it's rather good. My 6 years old son likes it and he usually has a good taste

Will have to have a proper listen tomorrow to the whole thing but it sounds like they're back on track.

Well the more I listen to the new album the more I like it

there are some pretty hardcore tracks on the new album and thinking about it I would say there's only 1 song that's a bit slow and not the old Metallica .

i got the deluxe version with 3 cds cd 3 has some cover songs and live tracks which is pretty good and an excellent cover song off Iron Maiden first album which I think is excellently done .

and the drumming on this album is hard hitting
