Is there any more infomation regarding the size of the drivers for the GX50 and 100?

Or is the size I mentioned before correct?

You like cut and paste? You want to know driver sizes? Bingo! Direct from the MA press release:

Gold GX100 £1250

The GX100 is a larger 2-way stand mount speaker featuring a 6.5" RST bass driver
and C-CAM ribbon tweeter. Operating with the performance of a typical 8"
driver, our proprietary 6.5" design provides higher overall efficiency with
dynamic headroom to deliver impressive bass extension and control. The GX100's
uncomplicated 2-way configuration renders complex material with tonal accuracy
and perfect timing. It may occupy the space of a stand-mount speaker, but the
GX100 sounds like a reference floor-stander. Optional, dedicated floor stands
are available.

Gold GX200 £2300
The first of the GX floor-standers is also the most compact. Amazing scale and
impressive dynamic control are available from this slender three way design,
comprising the GX ribbon and twin 5.5" bass drivers either side of a dedicated
4" mid-range driver housed in a dedicated enclosure. With high overall
efficiency, wide bandwidth and vanishingly low distortion, the GX200's Platinum
DNA is waiting to be experienced in a performance comparable with the very best
and most expensive high end speaker systems.

Gold GX300 £3000
Standing at over a meter tall the GX300 is a majestic three-way floor-standing
loudspeaker comprising twin 6.5" bass drivers, a single 4" mid-range driver and
a high frequency ribbon transducer. With so impressive a complement of drivers,
the GX300 has the power delivery and scale required to fill the largest rooms
with jaw-dropping dynamics as well as the finest musical detail. Extending from
below 30Hz to over 60kHz, its frequency range is among the widest available
from any speaker, irrespective of price.
Sublime fidelity, peerless build quality and exquisite design distinguish the GX300
as a future classic.

Gold GXC 150 £650
The ultra-compact GXC 150 centre speaker is small enough to fit into most AV racks
and is designed to match the smaller GX speakers in a more bijou home theatre
configuration. However because it shares its tonal characteristics with all GX
models, its capabilities are also compatible with any GX system design. The GXC
150's lustrous sealed cabinet is home to twin 5.5" drivers and the GX ribbon in
a two and half way orientation, providing superior dispersion across a range
from 50Hz to 60kHz. The specialised high frequency ribbon offers exceptional
detail and vocal intelligibility, enhancing communication with the listener.

Gold GXC 350 £1000
The GXC 350 centre speaker is a no-compromise centre channel solution for serious
home theatre installations. Its three-way, four driver configuration mirrors
that of the GX300, although the bass drivers are tuned to work in the GXC 350's
sealed cabinet. Unsurprisingly the GXC 350 is the perfect match for its
floor-standing counterpart, producing frequencies from 40Hz to beyond 60 KHz. A
neutral tonal balance and distortion-free sound gives the GXC 350 the ability
to project crystal-clear dialogue and mid-range detail at any volume. A
dedicated floor stand is available to ensure the most secure footing and ideal
vertical orientation for the GXC 350.

Gold GX-FX £1400
Matching the extraordinary tonal accuracy of its GX range mates, the GX-FX design
provides direct or ambient surround sound, which may be switched manually or
automatically via a 12V signal from the processor to accommodate the
functionality of high-end home or professional cinema applications. Amazing as
it may seem, the GX-FX slim wall-hugging profile incorporates no fewer than six
drivers.

In monopole mode for discrete side or rear sound channels its front-firing 6 «"
RST© bass/mid driver and C-CAM ribbon transducer deliver accurate
ultra-wideband sound to match the tonal balance of any GX speaker combination.
In dipole mode the GX-FX uses two pairs of side firing 4" C-CAM bass/mid
drivers and 25mm C-CAM© gold-dome tweeters, combined with the tailored output
from the front-firing bass/mid driver to provide wonderfully diffuse yet tonally
precise surround effects.

The GX-FX can be flush-mounted on side or rear walls. Installation is made easy by
the inclusion of a 'sloppy fit' pre-install bracket, which allows levelling and
adjustment prior to fixing.

GXW-15 £1750
The GXW-15 is an example of state-of-the-art subwoofer design. In a gloriously
glossy, rigid compact enclosure, we've installed an ultra-long throw 15" C-CAM
bass driver, triple suspended for a full 38mm (1.5") of linear excursion.
Featuring a massive magnet structure and under the DSP control of a 650W
D2AUDIO© DSP controlled amplifier, this extraordinary deep bass generator
brings a new dimension to bass and reference results for SPL, dynamic control
and headroom.
It may deliver taut gut-churning bass all the way down to a seismic 18Hz, but the
GXW-15 is also an intelligent design, featuring an advanced automatic room
correction system called LEOT (Listening Environment Optimizer). LEO simply and
automatically eliminates the detrimental bass boost of boundaries and corners
through the use of a microphone and test tones. The GXW-15's sealed enclosure
and front firing driver make it easy to install and calibration from the
front-mounted controls and dimmable LED display is simple, even from a distant
position. It's equipped with a 12V trigger and remote control with four user EQ pre-sets.

So Clare have you listened to them - are they actually playing at CES?

OK, thanks Clare.

I guess the GX50 should be using 5.5" woofer as I have mentioned before.

Since it looks the same size as those lower two units used on the GX200.

Yes, people it's 6am here in Vegas - about to start a whirlwind day of press conferences.

The show itself doesn't open until tomorrow, so no-one's had a chance to listen to anything yet - just talk about things

And even when I have had my first listen to the Gold GX range (tomorrow morning - probably about 6pm UK time) they will only be demo samples, so i'm not writing a review based on that...
emotion-2.gif

OK Clare so no instant review understandably - but do you have any early thoughts or impressions as yet - eg do they remind you of the platinums in action?

Also - how do they look in the flesh - are the plinths any better then the pictures suggest?

KBaudio:but do you have any early thoughts or impressions as yet - eg do they remind you of the platinums in action?

Clare Newsome:(tomorrow morning - probably about 6pm UK time)

Looking forward to your next post at 18.01 GMT today, KBa...

Point taken

Im off to find a decent forum where they dont let trivial things like the time space continuum confound them

OK, i've seen the Monitor Audio Gold GX range now
emotion-2.gif

Plinths are very sturdy metal - and very essential due to the curved cabinet design.

The look and finish are excellent, and in performance terms the aim is a similar raise in quality as we've seen with the Bronze and Silver 'X' range refreshes. Still a clear performance gap to the Platinums, though - just not as big a gap as before

And that's all you get for now - we'll bring you video footage of the new speakers later this week.

OK, but beware of geeks bearing gifts...

Looking forward for your impressions on the sound and dynamics of this new range. Thank you again clare

Had another listen to the GX50 and GX100 today at the dealer place. Not an expert in this but below are some observation. They sound better than when I first heard them 1 week ago after some running in.

The GX50 has bass that are surprising big for a 5.5" woofer and small enclosure. Clarity is excellent. But the lower mid do sound a bit light compared to the GX100. Good soundstage too.

The GX100 has more bass with the 6.5" woofer and clarity is the same. But the lower mid sounds fuller and soundstage sound bigger too. More balance overall. Both driven by tube amps from Caiyin.

Hope April comes soon.

New link for the brochure

thanks for the link. just finished reading the brochure. well I have been waiting 8 months for the launch of the GX series, but no indication of +/- 3db deviation in the frequency responses of all speakers does implies something which puts me off...

last year we saw the launch of the Apex and BX series which were both specified clearly with the +/- 3db deviation. I was expecting the new GX series would also have a flat frequency response like the Apex but I am wrong

i need to seriously re-consider Dynaudio Confidence C1 based 5.1 system for my HT setup of my new home as i could get a pair of C1 speakers at 4 grands from my dealer

Welcome to the Forums. 🙂

Gentle word of advice, if I may - never EVER judge any piece of kit based on quoted specifcations!

Please look and listen with your own eyes/ears before you get 'put off' (or indeed attrackted to) a product.

thanks Clare for your kind reminder. I will trust my ears before making the final decision.

i demoed GS60 and GS20 a few times and really liked their deep open soundstage except I found them too bright. when i checked out the measurements taken by various independent sources i knew why they sounded so bright to me and why they didn't put +/-3db on the paper

i talked with Alex before (what a nice guy) and although he never mentioned it, I could guess from his response that a new gold series were coming out soon and i thought it would be big step up. hopefully my dealer will get a pair for demo soon
