Any word / reliable rumour on Monitor Audio GX range?

I'm hoping these are going to be affordable to replace my RS6's with - would love the Platinums but also like to be able to eat dinner. Methinks those GX's would go very nicely indeed with my 60" Kuro Monitor & Susano.

I'm assuming they'll be around the same price as the previous models (whichever they turn out to be) when they're finally introduced next year.

I have seen the mystery range in the flesh (too busy to listen to them!!

), and they look beautifully finished - any photos of these are not going to do them justice!

another photos of gx series here :

You can see the gx300 and the white gx50

Anyone know what the accompanying comments are saying?

Also wonder why it is the brits are last to know about this British design - bah

sorry in france we have more informations ;-). The comments says that photos have been taken in a congres in Bruxelles by an amator photograph. The text speak about the models of this new serie : GX 300, GX200 (column), and the small one : GX 100 and GX50, and the beautiful magnetic grids similar to those observed on PL models... sorry for my english, I do my best !!! Nothing else important in the text...

Am I the only one that doesnt like the new C-CAM cone?

Its lost its cool dimples & gorgeous spike in the old ones.Detailing around the cone area with the brushed aluminium effect is very nice however....

I agree... The old cones looked nicer... As did the plinth... I guess it must be a cost cutting measure, why MA went for cheaper looking plinths on both the RX and GX lines....

Me three as indicated earlier - cones look less appealing by far, bullets/spike have gone awol and plinths look like an afterthought and a seriously cheap one at that - I wonder if they will look better in the flesh. I think I prefer the look of the ribbon on the platinums too but I agree the cone surrounds are nice as are the absence of grill holes.

Gold series was always lustworthy both for sonics and aesthetics for me

I hate it when a series goes backwards whether it is sonics or looks - I accept subjectivity of it all but a theme appears to be developing on the lregard for the ooks anyway

The dimples may have looked cool but I don't think they offered much in the way of improved performance.

In
some tests done in another mag on the RX8, the cones had some serious resonant modes that affected the sound, despite having a very flat
frequency response.

I think the new GX series looks like a
winner, the new cones look like they should be stiffer and hopefully the
combination with the ribbon tweeter (I love ribbons!) should make it
one to watch.
The plinths do look a bit shabby though.

Agreed, but MA for me had a standard of speaker finishes and looks that set them apart from the rest of the main stream competitors. Its the only reason I have stuck with MA throughout these years.

I do think they will look different in the flesh and for me the rosenut finish isnt flattering at all. Lets just wait and see when they are released I guess.

I agree they look like stiffer cones, technology used from the Platinums I guess - using some sort of a metal coating on the cones to increase strength.

My real issue is with the cheap plinths... The cones don't look as nice, but I'm sure they provide a sonic improvement... The plinths on the other hand really just look like a major budget cut... The plinths on the GS Series were so sexy that I'd want to buy a pair of GS20 just for them (well that and I really like the sound of those speakers)...

My local dealer had received the shipping sampe of the GX50, 100, 200 & 300 yesterday.

Should be ready for audition soon after he had run them for some time.

The dealers from the rest of the world should also start receiving their samples soon.

I have info, but am under embargo until Wednesday next week - watch this space for exclusive news story, picture blog and firm details re release dates....

Will go down to the dealer to check if he had setup the GX50 and GX100 tomorrow.

Hopefully can get more information as well as pricing.

Unfortunately, the pricing still not available yet.

So far only the US has the pricing.

Not much information on the speakers yet too.

Just got that the GX50 is using 5.5" woofer while the GX100 using 6.5".

Both are 6 ohms design.

Listened to both the GX50 and GX100.

Guess I have to save up for the GX100 now.

We should all keep a look out for reduced prices for the G series.

I am looking for GSFZ/GS10 to finish my 7.1 GS system (a second GSW12 would be overkill).

Believe that your team met up with Monitor Audio team a few days ago?

Clare Newsome:It's still very much Tuesday here in the US, where the range is being unveiled tomorrow morning

Did not expect you to reply until later today actually.

So you will be revealing the US or UK prices?

US prices already floating around the net for some time.

Hope that it is the UK price that will be announced cause my local dealer will only fix the price here after he had seen the UK and US price.

Eargerly waiting for more updates.

Gadzooks they have gone to a 15 incher for the sub!!!

Ribbon good for 60khz vs 100khz in platinum if I recall - im sure the speculators a year ago were thinking the GX would sport a detuned version of the platinum ribbon to 50khz so thats about right

I think I would buy these blind without hearing them if my golds (GS) weren't 1 year and 5 days old - I wonder how long I have to wait before it is no longer obscene to upgrade (and if the plinths are reported to be less fugly in the flesh)
