This problem has been hitting me on and off for a while now and I am hoping somebody on the WHF fora can help as I have been unable to track down a solution elsewhere on the net (inluding the Adobe site!!!). There is plenty of mention of the problem itself but no answer that I could find.

Every time I open Photoshop Elements 9 on my Windows 7 PC, I get a box saying:

“PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe - No Disk

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive DeviceHarddisk3DR3.

Cancel Try Again Continue".

Sometimes it refers to 'DR2' or 'DR 4' rather than 'DR3'.

If I hit Cancel, Try Again or Continue 5-10 times I can carry on but the same box keeps reappearing and requires another 5-10 clicks before I can continue again. This does not only happen when I open files from SD Card or USB stick. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop but the same issue always returns and is becoming an ever increasing pain in my backside.

Can anybody help please - it might even be comforting to know that somebody else here has the same problem, even if they ain't got a solution.

Have you been removing your SD cards / cameras 'safely'?

(You know, you right click on 'safely remove hardware' as you would before removing a USB drive or similar?)

Maybe PSE is still 'looking for' the last device you downloaded pics from.

If that's so, plug in the last device you used with PSE. Then bring up PSE. Then 'safely remove hardware' for that device and then remove it.

It might stop PSE looking for it.

Chebby, Thanks for the suggestion which makes a lot of sense but I have already done it and it ddn't make any difference. That said, I have to confess that I am guilty of removing cards, sticks etc. without ejecting properly but it never seemed to make any real difference in the past with my earlier version of PS (CS2).

Any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Was the install (and re-installs) from DVD or download?

If it's from DVD, do you have a second disk? Have you installed that too? (Apparently the 2nd disk contains additional functions and your software may be looking for it.)

It's quite possibly because you've used PSE to access images directly off your memory card, which it now expects to be present every time you launch the application.

Chebby, Again, thanks - it was from the disk and, no, I didn't use the 2nd disk. I will give it a go later and report back.

Major, Thanks also. That is very similar to the suggestion put forward by Chebby - if correct, it is a very stupid bug in the software which Adobe should have fixed except they probably want me to buy Release 10 or 11 instead.

Yeah Adobe are good at that trick. There was an issue with Adobe Audtion CS5.5 in Mac OSX Lion and Mountain Lion where it didn't recognise some audio-device configurations. They acknowledged the bug on their forums, but when I and other members asked whether the issue would be fixed via a free patch, they went quiet. They've fixed it on CS6, but of course upgrading to CS6 is not free.

Well, I reinstalled PSE9 and went to open a file from my computer (ie. NOT a card) and it did the same thing (DR2 this time). Really pi**ed off with it now!

Grateful for any other suggestions / ideas.

I don't use elements, but go into the settings/preferences or whatever it's called and check that you haven't got a default folder set to something wrong.

Failing that, check the printer options too.

Just for the record, I seem to have solved the problem but, perhaps, not in the way that I would have wanted. I always had the fallback of installing PSE10 as I got a free download of it from Leica when I bought a new camera a little while ago but, to be honest, I was trying to avoid a download of something like 1.5Gb as my connection is sometimes not too hot (although that should change next month when I go over to another ISP!). Anyway, I bit the bullet, downloaded and installed it and all seems to be fine at the moment.
