Any merit in a valve/tube forum sub-section ?

Given the major resurgence in the popularity of valve/tube amplifiers in recent years, I wondered if it would be worth having a separate sub-section in the 'HiFi' section of this forum ? (Just as headphones and turntables already have their own sections).

At the moment, it is difficult to track valve related threads.

There might be, but if they/we went that route then we'd need one for Speakers, another for Amps, another for CD players, long before we got to tube/valve gear, at least based on the typical postings here.

Maybe Amps - solid-state and Amps - Valve/tube would be the way to go?

The downside would be that we would miss the debates about various pros and cons, and it wouldn't end the confusion over Class A solid-state devices, for example.

Not necessarily.

Remember that valves are not just confined to amplifiers, but also find their way into some CD players and DACs, for example.

I see your point, but I feel that debates on, say, DACs and CDPs are better when either technology is deployed, and therefore on its own merits. With amps, I feel that there are some who avowedly only want one or t'other. In the nicest possible way, someone seeking a valved DAC is pretty unlikely to be looking here!

However, it's a worthwhile debate, I'm sure there will be some more ideas/views later this evening!

Tricky. Most international readers/browsers (and even a lot of younger UK people) tend to call valves 'tubes'.

There are increasing numbers of Class D amps emerging in 2 channel hifi (Primare and Marantz and Denon to name a few) including my own M-CR603. Should they have a sub-section?

What about solid state class A ? (Sugden notably, some Accuphase, MF , and Luxman amps and others.)

Where do hybrid (valve/tube + solid state) amps go?

Nope - too many sub-sections already IMO.

I know PP thinks that even the home page and news sections are 'not pertinent', but on this occasion I agree with him* that this could be a sub-section too far.

I think valves and A's deserve their own forums for their importance in Hi Fi but I am not convinced on the demand. The forum is quite a close reflection on What Hi Fi recent reviews. I don't really see a mass of media or buyer interest in either in comparison to blu ray/smartphone or gaming markets.
