To make it a subscription it would have to be much more expensive than the current licence fee just to meet it's PSB remit, or offer much reduced service.

Nor will it take ads because it would decimate the commercial PSBs.

The TVL will either continue as is or they'll just give up the pretence it isn't a tax, and abolish it in favour of a "media tax"

If I were to look at my crystal ball, I see fluffy snow and reindeers 🙂

Seriously though, you're probably right it won't survive but I do see BBC existing as a government news service, licence free.

They'll exist and continue as production company, producing dramas and documentaries, for Netflix, Amazon and Disney. And; everyone would have moved on to streaming by subscription.

So many people whinge and whine about the BBC and the Licence Fee. You'll all be moaning if has to close down. no more TV or radio, broadcast add free, no more BBC News and no more BBC online. No more public service broadcaster, with a remit to provide content for everyone, answerable to the British public, rather than wealthy American shareholders.

Especially true with ITV about to be sold to Comcast.

It may be that the solution is probably to merge the state owned Channel 4 into the BBC and allow advertising on the platform and possibly a paywall for some programs or ad free access i.e. iPlayer+.

The problem here is, Comcast won't want their Sky ad revenue to be compromised. The BBC would hoover up a lot of that resource.

It would be the end of C4, ITV and C5, if the BBC took ads, so it won't happen
