How many of you have not hit the record just right letting the stylus on your needle ride the edge?....and a friend of mine would like to know if this is harmful to the needle it only happened once to him....

It shouldn't have done anything at all, to be honest!

I've done it about twice; looks an expensive mistake to make though!

Preposterous. Why have a gramaphone when you can have a computer and cupboards full of back-up drives?

Joel, I do feel sorry for you. There are rack mounted servers that would fit nicely into that one of yours you know.

Why not have both?

Joel, I am thinking of getting a USB ADC so I can plug in my Rega and rip vinyl tracks to the computer as well. I need to get an ADC with a groove-perfect groovestream.

I may even look into getting a valve phono-stage to give some nice analogue class A warmth to my digits.

M-Audio's Flying Cow DAC/ADC got rave reviews some time ago (we're talking a decade here) - they're out and about for relatively little cash. Certainly a whole load cheaper than anything out the Apogee stable...maybe Behringer kit is worth a look too?

How old-fashioned! Why not upload all your music to some remote computer on the West Coast of the USA, then stream it to your system via t'Interweb?

Think of all the space you'll save and it's so much the modern way of doing things and blah blah blah...

At CES they previewed an implant where you received the music directly into your brain *. Perfect!

* Possibly.

And all that electricity you would save by using a CD player, in your house...

Or - and I'm bringing this back in a full circle here - a turntable which uses even less...

You're actually wasting more electricity having your CD player on whilst you post on here or look at Arcam porn.ÿ

Alternatively, bin all that new fangled electrical stuff and just get one of these. After all, progress is bad, isn't it?
