I just ripped a couple of DTS (sound obviously!) tracks from my Eric Clapton Crossroads DVD.
I set the software to sample at 44.1khz 24bit, and downmix to stereo and to output .wav files.
I then wrote these wavs to CD and the quality is quite astounding.
So to my mind this suggests that in many cases, it's the quality of the source material that is responsible for the poor quality of so many CDs. (Which we all probably already knew anyway).
So maybe there is a future for multichannel (DTS not SACD) audio after all - 'cos then we can all rip it and play it on our CD players / PC's / Airport Expresses / Mac's etc.and enjoy higher quality sound.....
For those who may be interested - I used 'DVD Audio Extractor' <<< clicky
