Hi, I just bought a new subwoofer- the Velodyne Impact-Mini. Will certainly be a LOT better than the one I have at the moment and small enough that my dog will probably eat it. My question is, it has a frequency range that bottoms out at 38hz. I know a lot of other subs go down significantly lower than this. On your typical movie or CD soundtrack, is there anything to be gained audibly in these lower reaches i.e would my partially deaf ear be able to pick out any difference whatsoever?!

Partly depending on the size of your room and the location of the sub you will get a boost to lower frequencies, making your in room response better than suggested by a 38Hz -3dB point in the specs sheet.

I'm not sure how much movie stuff plumbs the depths below 30Hz. A bigger ported sub would give you more slam, weight and depth, though not necessarily musical accuracy.
