Hi,

i want to buy a complet new system. My budget is £850. I need an amp, 2 speakers, CD and Vinyl player. Im a complet noob in hifisystems, so i could use some help!

I don't want my system to go very loud, but i want that it sounds very clean. :rockout: im a music lover and i want to hear every detail...

I did some research and my eye fell on the mordaunt short alumni 2 speakers and focal dome 2 speakers. My speakers must be mounted on wall...

for an amp i completely do not know what to choose! Maybe a denon pma720ae ..

and how much should i spend for a cd and vinyl player? Maybe my old vinyl player still works ;-)

thanks for any advice

The Denon is a great choice with a powerful, clean and involving sound. The matching CD player is excellent too.

For speakers look out for some used Dali lektor 1s or 2s.

If you can stretch to it the Rega RP1 is a great budget turntable, and the Denon has a great phono stage.

I have the Alumni 2 in a surround setup (5 speakers but no sub).

They are great with multi channel surround but when used as stereo on av amp i.e. tuner I find them rather lacking compared to my wharfedales 10.1 on the Yam AS 500 which sound great.

Great speakers but not for stereo in my opinion.

Hi,

i already have some new questions... If i want my pc and ipad to work with my amp and with only 2 stereo speakers, should i go for hifi amp or a home cinema amp? If someday i think of more speakers....

- i see the yamaha rx v673 is a great home cinema amp, but why would i prefer this one above the denon pma720 ae amp?

- and what about those monitor audio bronze bx2 speakers in combination with one of the above amps? I saw in review that they are picky with system matching... Or the boston acoustics a26... My speakers must hang on a wall!

questions, questions, questions... :help: I still have to learn a lot

My mate has recently purchased the Denon PMA720AE to replace his faulty amp, for £199 is a cracker, was very impressed how it sounded in his system, you cant really do wrong with it at that price, clean detailed puchy come to mind, the WHF review says it can sound too fast with gentle music or something, hmmm , I heard playing, mendelshons 'fingal cave' it sounded wonderful
