Just curious would you count the Naim Qute as a real proper hi-fi with a real proper hi-fi sound ?

I have listened at hi-fi exibitions to expensive systems, but they are very selective in what they play, for me it comes mainly comes down to how well the original source recording is in the first place, as some songs from the internet radio on my system sound much better than others, and some cd tracks will sound much better than others, because you are going to get a significant difference in some previous recorded source recordings, and am sure that this will be the case for any hi-fi system that these different tracks are played on

Or in other words with really good source material I am very happy with what I hear through my Denon Ceol N8 system, and don't believe there is as big a jump in sound quality as some people think there is with separates etc

I came accross a Monitor Audio A100 over the weekend, sounded very average but that was with some cheap MA speakers.

Functionality was interesting though, everything can be done via network free Airstream/Airplay. No wired network connections so streaming from a computer or hard drive in the conventional way is also wireless.

For many people, who are going to stream rather than rip, such as myself, it does what I want and does not have to be connected to a network at all, it even has the all important pre-amp outputs to drive active speakers.

A A100 and a pair of DM5s for about a grand, everything streamed from laptop or iPad. Spare inputs to connect the tv too.

A great solution for a lot of people looking for a simple way of streaming from their iThings.

It says on here the a100 has no Bluetooth and AirPlay is poor. How come no system seems to have both?

im definitely interested in the quad vena

Properly implemented I much prefer Airplay to Bluetooth, I have not had 'hands on' with the product, but generally Airplay either works transparently or does not work at all.

In what way is it poor?

No.

A system with separates will have more power, less distortion, higher resolution, higher SPL for more realistic scale of musical presentation. Separates will have more quantity. Quality is what you decide in your mind based on your life experience, knowledge, hearing, even visual and ergonomic preference. Qualitative = ascribed characteristics. Quantative = actual empirical characteristics.

I prefer large hi-fi sound, my mom hates it. She prefers a smaller mini system at lowish listening levels and with clear sound. Many people have tried hi-fi separates and hated them, reverting back to mini systems or all-in-ones. There are people who buy cars and return them because they are too fast, too flashy etc. Many listen to vinyl despite it is horridly inferior to digital, but to them the experience is grand. Good luck convincing them digital is superior.

Jump in performance may or may not bring you quality. It is fully up to you.

The A100 does not have Bluetooth because, at the time that its design was finalized, Apple was not permitting AirPlay and Bluetooth on the same device. That restriction has been lifted, and MA has announced a new speaker S200 that combines the 2 wireless abilities in one device. The next iteration of the A100 will likely also have Bluetooth and AirPlay.

I just got an A100 and am having a lot of fun with it. It replaced an NAD, DAC, and Airport Express. It sounds better, has a smaller footprint, and is more versatile. I run AirPlay, but am tinkering with using a DLNA server to allow more options in file formats and programs. It is a quirky machine, and seems a bit bleeding edge, but it is fun!

Interesting.

I listen to all my music via streaming services, currently Spotify.

Operationally I would stream Spotify from my MBP (or iPad) to the M100 and rather like the idea of not having it connected to my network.

If you have the time, your impressions of the way these functions work would be much appreciated. You mention that it is 'quirky', can you elaborate?
