The Adventures - `The Sea Of Love`

They had a hit off this album called `Broken Land` which seems to have been forgotten about. Nearly saw them supporting Fleetwood Mac but unfortunately I couldn`t get the people I was going to the concert with out of the pub in time so we missed them. One in 8,000 chance turned up when I bumped into a music journalist at the gig (Wembley Arena) who I used to share a house with. He was there on a freebie to review The Adventures performance. Bit more useless pop trivia for you there! But anyway, good album.

JohnNewman:Soundgarden - Superunknown

Great choice! Haven't played that in years. 'Fell on black days' is a brilliant song. I'm putting it on now.

Agreed. Played the hell outta that album when it came out. Not a bad song on it. 'Head Down' is my fave, but the volume always heads clockwise when 'Black Hole Sun' comes on.

Another vote here for `Superunknown`. It`s been too many years since I heard this album and it`s time I did. Really like `Black Hole Sun`.

Just went to find it halfway through doing this post. Found it in my sons bedroom (no mean feat!), remember now I lent it to him a while back. Right then, let`s put it on!

Not a bad song on it.

I gotta disagree with you there, big boy! I love the album, but 'Kickstand' sucks donkey balls.

That's the only mis-step on the whole album, though. 'Mailman' and 'Fresh Tendrils' are amazing.

Hiya Volcane. Yes I did find it but still haven`t got round to playing it yet though I shall very soon! I`ve got the bands first album on vinyl which I think was self-titled and I actually have the `Blackbird..` on cd AND vinyl would you believe! Around the time this came out I was buying a load of albums from a shop called `Past and Present` in Watford, Hertfordshire which has sadly now closed down. It was back in the days when the charts were full of all sorts of rubbish so I often used to take a chance on recommendations from the guys in the shop in an attempt to find some decent music. I seem to remember around the same time buying albums by bands such as Princess Pang(?), Phantom Blue, Romeo`s Daughter and Great White to name just a few. Of course you could never hear this stuff on the radio though there was a late night/early morning rock show on TV called Raw Power which was quite useful for finding new metal artists. I shall try to fit this album in this week and report back.

The two Saraya albums have stood the test of time quite well, to my mind the 2nd was the superior record but the first is certainly not bad. I bought the first album on vinyl too after hearing "Love Has Taken It's Toll" on a radio show and followed the band from there.

I played the two Romeo's Daughter albums the other day and they just sound like typical Mutt Lange songs to me..... overproduced basically.

I never got round to hearing Phantom Blue, and have never heard of Princess Pang so cannot comment there.

Right, I'm back to my Lita Ford cd's....

Hi Volcane. Finally played the second Saraya album today and yeah it hasn`t aged too badly. After first couple of songs wasn`t so sure but as the album progressed I was thinking that it is pretty solid. Shall have to find first album now.

Know what you mean about Romeo`s Daughter. We were quite proud of them around here back in the day as they were a local band. Story goes that just when they needed a bit of publicity they turned down the chance to support Def Leppard. Ooops!

Some of the other bands I recall from around the same time were Soundgarden, Warrior Soul, Tesla, Warrant, Cinderella, The Quireboys, Tesla and Testament.

Think I`ve got three Lita Ford albums? Thought she was going to have a massive hit with the single `Kiss Me Deadly` but it never happened. If she`d been born twenty years later and released it now I`m sure it would be a big hit, what with the ban on playing rock music seeming to have been lifted by certain sections of the media. Talking of which the chances are some of the bands I named earlier would have been far more sucessful today than they were back in the 90`s. Oh well.

All the best!

Fleetwood Mack - Then Play On.

Don't think I have ever really listened to it on a Good system, Great Recording Real depth and scale to the stage.
