just bought the new 85b and am so far impressed. However i can not watch a dvd except for via a scart.I have a harmon kardon hs300 which will play 1080i and 1080p i think. The tv doe not seem to have a function to adjust to 1080 so when i plug in the hdmi cable i get nothing-scart is fine.As soon as i adjust the hs300 to 1080i the picture goes.I just cant work it out,i seem to be doing everything right but the tvs non ability to adjust to 1080 is causing problems.

I had the exact same problem with my PS3, worked over scart but nothing on hdmi. 1st plug in the scart and the hdmi, then go into your Harmon's settings and there should be a menu/option that allows you to change the output from scart to hdmi. My ps3 was displaying dvd's at 720P until I turned on the ps3 upscaler. It would be nice if they auto configured, instead of looking through all the settings.

It's very very unlikely to be the tv. The tv auto switches inputs when you turn on another device, and then when you turn it off goes back to either the scart or digi tuner depending on how you set up the options on the tv. I have mine set to scart so it starts up with sky and not the digi tuner.

You can only get SD from a scart lead. You have to use hdmi for HD. The tv will of course scale an sd image to match the screens resolution automatically. But it's not the same as HD over HDMI.

Also you may find that the tv does a better job of upscaling dvd's than your player. Try leaving the scaler on your player turned off and see what it's like. Then if you have the option to use the players upscaler try that and see if the picture is better or worse. If that makes any sense. Basically the tv's upscaler may be better than your dvd players.

Thanks for your reply.I have tried what you suggest and its still the same.Scart in and the hdmi,go to set up on the h/k but there isnt an option that actually says hdmi just a video output mode which says scart/component and s video. There is a resolution mode but as soon as i take it off standard to 720 or 1080i all i get is a black screen with lines on it.Going to the hdmi output on the tv does nothing except bring up a blank screen so i,m stumped.I must have messed about for 3 hours with no success and i,m stumped. The picture is very good in standard mode so am really wanting the 1080i mode now.
Cheers

anyway you could test the harmon on a mates tv as the 85 switches auto i can play a 720 game and then a 1080 game it should come up with either 720p or 1080p input in the top left on screen, so either its the harmons output or you need to phone up pana as maybe the hdmi connections are faulty?
