Speaker system BR5 with upgraded fronts RS6 driven by 605 (upgrading soon to 875). Was going to run the back speakers with the QED micro as suggested on here. The fronts with QED anniversary but I have been told they require air plugs? Not having the exact measurement worried I get the lenght wrong it will be money wasted (shipping to Dubai). Will go for the above if good however open to ideas on fittings or alternative cable. Any advise welcome.

Hi,

I use to use the QED anniversary, I don't think they have to have airplugs even though the guy recommended them when i bought the cable it was meant to be a better connection. However I used normal bannanah plugs and i think it was fine. I just got two 3m lengths as my front speakers were around 5m apart. Will the QED be good enough if your upgrading your speakers - they certaintly have a nice top end but i found they lacked a little bit of warmth and bass.

Regards,

Steve.

You don't have to use Airloc plugs with the QED cables, I have BFA connections on my amp, so just use bare wire.

The Airloc plugs aren't really too expensive for what they are though, and they're a lot more reliable than screw-on bananas IMO.

Some places do charge silly prices for them, but if you hunt around you should be able to get a relatively good deal. There are often pairs pre-terminated on ebay, you may even get X-tube cables for a good price.

As for alternative options, I'd look at the Ecosse range.

What about the Chord Company Carnival SilverScreen for the fronts have been told better than the QED and WhatHiFi seems to confrim this. Happy with this but what about the choice of speaker cable for the back. Was recomended the QED micro being the back don`t need top end cable. However not happy to mix and match i.e. Chord n QED. The lenght of room front to back speakers 5mtr.

Just checked and I will need the following lengths to wire the system. Monitor RS6 fronts 3mtr lengths and the BRFX backs 9mtr lengths. Now thinking for the fronts either the QED Silver Anniversary XT terminated with the micro for backs. Or Chord silver screen terminated with what?. Only have 10 days before I travel back to Dubai need help please on choice with suitable cable for back.

Right first make sure you have measured correctly , i would have a bit spare say 1 mtr. Qed would be fine as suggested using the qed air locks £3.95 from A1 Sound. For chord cables look at Chord company they sell for 10% less than most places, but come in pairs factory terminated using 4mm banana plugs 3mtrs for £59.40 so i guess you may have to purchase to pairs rears 9mtrs would cost you £124.20 a lot more than qed micro. Overall Chord is supposed to give you a little more bass at a price i cant judge performance as i have only used qed and that works fine for most people.

I would advise on getting the Airloc banana plugs. They won't oxidise unlike bare wire or screw-on plugs. They area VERY tight fit but the plating seems to be good enough to cope with the friction put on them when (un)plugging them. It does, however get expensive when you have a bi-wire set-up.

Big thanks to all. Just to clear things up. I sugested QED Silver Anniversary 3 mtr with Airloc for the fronts (room width 5mtr) and the normal QED micro in 9 mtr length bare wire terminated for the backs (room length 5.5 mtr). Could take a gamble on the micro silver but can not fit Airloc to the BRFX wall mounted. the normal Qed micro runs at £1.75.
