Im intrested now in the Pioneer PDP4280XD but i have a little concern about it not being 1080P is this true and will this matter at all? Also would this set still out perform the new Philips sets due out as i was dead set on a Philips Ambilight but now im seriously considering the Pioneer also. Thanks

I was a little concerned as well but that was before I went to actually see it in action. Unless you sit three feet from your TV or use it as a PC monitor, it's the best TV available in the 40"-42" bracket. My advice is to go and see it at a decent TV specialist dealer (as in not Currys or Comet) alongside other similarly sized sets and make up your own mind. The only other set that seems to have the potential to match its performance is the new Panasonic 42PZ85. Some dealers are now getting stock so you may may able to compare them in close proximity. Also, there are good deals to be had on the Pio at the moment. Dixons.co.uk are doing it for £1229 with a free Pioneer DCS-370 5.1 Home Cinema System which sounds like a great deal.

Thats why i been considering it as it comes with the free dvd kit from dixons plus if you use code BIGTV it knocks another 5% off price...............i would be sitting about 7-8 foot away is this ok for a screen this size?

I got my 428XD for £1369 + free 5 Pioneer warrenty a couple of weeks ago from a specilist dealer (very similar model to 4280XD). I sit 8ft away and the picture quality is amazing. At this distance and screen size you really wont miss not having the 1080 resolution. Mainy because the Pioneer does an amazing job with the signal fed to it . Its got an excellant panel and a very capable video processor. Only time you may wish you had fullHD is if you are playing fullHD games and are sat 2ft from the display!

I sit 8 feet away and I find that an ideal distance - it's just far enough for SD and close enough to still really appreciate HD content. Of course, it varies from person to person which is why I recommend having a proper look at it in the flesh (you know what I mean).
