Had a look at the website and they look interesting, I’m definitely going to audition some when I get a final shortlist together. They look good value at only £1200. Can they really hold their own against much more expensive speakers?

I would like to try the DC6s but not sure if they would be a bit overkill in a room my size?

Go with the DC4 then and have a listen. They're delightful and wonderfully lucid speakers. You don't want something lumpy in your room and in any case, the bulk of the music is in the midrange. I find the DC4 to be a fabulous little speaker. They work very well in small rooms and while I think the R100 which you might also be considering to be able enough, it really needs some room to breathe (IMO). I stand by my earlier point about the bass and in the wrong setup, without room to breathe, it'll come second. Hence why I took the DC4 which to my ears leaves it standing.

But have a listen, there's an amazing selection of great speakers from £100 (Wharfedale 9.1 in Superfi, very highly rated by many on here), up to the Dali Zensors, the Tannoys I use, plenty.

I can only tell you about the Tannoys though, and I'd be hard pressed to shift them. At least as good as my previous Mission 751s from years ago. And they were amazing speakers. Oh, one other thing, don't be put off by the chat around the "lack" of the bass in the DC4. Plenty enough in a small room (which mine also is). I'd almost say buy with confidence, but won't. ;)

Most people that have heard them seem to think so. A few disagree.

I think that only you would be able to decide if they are the speakers for you. If you do a bit of research re: passive and active speakers, you should find a fair bit of interesting reading.

They work for me.

Speaker Demo update!

It’s been a few months and I have been busy demoing speakers

Here is a list

Monitor Audio RX6

B&W 684S

Mordaunt short Mezzo 6

Tannoy Revolution DC6

KEF Q500

PMC Twenty 23

Dynaudio Excite X32

Spendor A5

Spendor A6

AVI ADM 9S

At this point the Excite X32s were my favourites just ahead of the DC6s and RX6s

It was suggested after demoing the AVIs that with my budget it may be worth trying some more standmounts for a room of my size.

So then I Tried these

Dynaudio Contour S 1.4

B&W PM1s

Tannoy Precision 6.1

Dali Epicon 2

B&w 805 Diamond

After trying the precision 6.1s and being a big fan of the DC6s I decided to give the precision 6.2s a go and loved them!

So I was now down to 2 sets of speakers the Excite X32s and The Precision 6.2s.

Then Dynaudio announce the new Excite Range so I’m now having to wait until the Autumn and compare them to the Tannoys for a final decision.

Oh and looks like ill be getting a Roksan K2 to go with them.

Hmmm now should I get a record player?

Also where is the Precision 6.2 review whathifi?

I found the Tannoy 6.1 to be very warm and coloured and that was with the Marantz Pearl Lite cdp/amp which is quite a neutral combo I think, pleasant to listen/laid back to but not enough detail for me. The RK also is not most open and detailed amp IMO, so I would be careful with that combo. For me the AVI ADM 9RSS were so much better. I also tried the Dyns X12.

So you have not tried the KEF R100s?

I see the Tannoys 6.2 are floorstanders, are you sure they will be suitable for your room? I would get a home demo before you commit.

You're right Dynaudio's do seem to be more detailed and accurate but the 6.2s seemed more exiting and had wonderful controlled bass for a big speaker.

As you say they are largest floorstanders, bigger than the x32/34s so this is something im thinking about a lot now.

Does anyone have any thoughts/experience on the 6.2s?

Do you think they will be too much for my room?

Although i did demo them in a smallish listening room and they sounded good.

IMHO I would not have Floorstanders in your room size, but others will disagree. Most FS are best about 3 feet away from walls. I really think something about 30 x 20 x 24 cms would be big enough. My room is 17 x 11 feet and I have plenty of bass.

What sort of walls and floor do you have in your room, ie is it wood or concrete floor, walls plaster board, brick, concrete, breeze block?

Wood flooring with a thick rug and 2x sides of the room are brick and 2x plaster board the room includes a sofa, bookshelf and table.

Oh and a rat cage (+ 2 rats)

Not sure what effect the rats with have on the sound.

Wooden floors (suspended ) can be a problem with bass. Are the speakers backing onto the brick walls or plaster board?

My BX5s are against the plaster board wall and have always been fine, they do have a bit of room around them though. If it was a problem i could move the room about and put them against a brick wall.

Whats your opinion on furniture positioning in a room? How would having something like a bookcase in the corner effect sound?

Oh and rats don't generally effect sound unless they chew through cables.
