Folks I have a Panasonic Vierra TX-L32G10B and a PS3.

I want to connect these up to an av receiver and a set of 5.1 (not sure of the benefits of 7.1) speakers. I want the system to do justice to music played through the PS3 and also the HD sound from Blu Ray and gaming.

The limited research I did suggested that Onkyo receivers were a good bet.

Popped into richer and was advised to purchase this set with a bunch of decent cables. Can you advise on whether this is a complete crock?

http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/onkyo/txsr607/onky-txsr607 I was told that the 608 has just been released but this was a fair bit more expensive.

I'd be grateful for any pointers.

Cheers

or you could go with a pair of these , then add a centre speaker , sats and a sub over time if money is tight..

you would end up with a better system for both music and movies ..

edit..maybe a better pair of floorstanders would be an idea (if it interests you), those roths only get 3 stars from whfi..

I would go for the 876, especially for music.
You can pick them up for around £600.

You must invest in a decent speaker package or you will be disapointed living with them.

I bought my system from http://www.wilkinsons.tv/ who gave me both an excellent deal, great advice and service.

Phone them, you will get a deal that way.

Also, the Onkyo 607 is by no means a bad choice, but I thought it was a bit brash when I auditioned one. Maybe the current WHF budget champ receiver would be a better call -- the Sony STR DH800. Even cheaper than the Onkyo in RS and would give you a bit more to play with when chosing speakers...
