Hi,

I’m thinking of putting my mum's old Hi-Fi to good use. She’s got the amplifier (Aiwa MX-D9), the CD player (Aiwa DX-D9), the graphic equalizer (GE-D9), the tuner (Aiwa TX-D9) and the double-cassette deck (Aiwa FX-W9). We’re missing the speakers. What sort of speakers do you recommend we should get for this system? I’ve no idea... Do we need two speakers or one could do the job? I’m asking this because we don’t have a lot of space in the room and the system without speakers is already pretty big.

We normally use the CD player and the radio. We don’t plan to play cassettes so I thought I’d install everything but the cassette player. Does that sound like a crazy idea? By dropping it, I reduce the size of the system, which would be helpful give the space we have. I guess the rest of the system does not need the cassette player for anything. Please let me know if this sounds reasonable to you.

Thanks a lot

A pair of these should be fine and 2 speakers are much better than one.

You can wall mount them if it saves space. I couldn't find the power output of the amp so check in the shop if these speakers will be ok. They are quite small too.

Or there is these. They are smaller still but are not quite as powerful hence check with the shop if they will be ok with the Amp.

Hope you find the right ones.

Thanks a lot for answering so promptly.

The speaker jacks behind the amplifier are labelled “6 ohm”. I cannot see any power output figure in Watt. Please have a look at the following picture of the back of the amplifier: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=amplifier+Aiwa+MX-D9&rlz=1C1CHWA_enES599ES600&espv=2&biw=1600&bih=732&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=yRZEVMHQIo-S7AbphIGoDA&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=ChAMStuE364DcM%253A%3BPeKWVa9EmP2dDM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Faudiozavar.com%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2012%252F04%252Fp1220498.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Faudiozavar.com%252Farchives%252F2532%3B1280%3B960

In accordance with your advice, I want to connect two speakers. Does the 6 ohm label mean that I need two speakers of at least 12 ohm each?
