Just like to say thank you to drummerman and simonclayt for the interesting and insightful reviews.

And thanks to WHF for buying the ADM9.1s (although you should not have had to).

Oh please, get over it. I've seen the price of the mag, they can afford it!

When my wife decides on finish and signs off budget, and I have them installed and had them running for a longer period, I shall post another user review on the WHFi Dynaudio section.

I can't find your first user review of the Dynaudios, saw your ADM9.1 review though.

I have the 9.1s in black gloss and can confirm they are finished to a high standard - no bumps or blips. You can see the wadding through the port hole but not an issue for me and I use them with the grilles on in any case. I wouldn't say they're poorly made because of that though. I use them with a small MJ Acoustics Pro 50 sub and they do benefit from this a bit but would be happy to use them without on most types of music.

On the question whether one could listen to them for 10 hours a day (I wish!) then I would say it depends on the musical tastes and recording quality. These speakers really do get inside recordings and poorly recorded material (anything that's compressed) sounds pretty dire and I'd hate to expose myself for 10 hours to that stuff! Conversely, they excel with well-recorded music and thrive on dynamic range. I've been caught out a number of times where I've cranked the volume up without realising it (because of the clean sound) and my ears started 'popping'. (Ouch! - silly of me I know). I haven't heard the other speakers on test here as a direct comparison so can't comment but in all very pleased with the 9.1s (last speakers were the B&W805s and these compare well).

simonclayt and d-man, good to read your comments. Sounds like the Dynaudios might be more my cup of tea - assuming I can find them somewhere for an audition.

Simon, you mention at the end the dynaudio stand3's. This stand, and the stand4, is something I have been admiring on the internet for some time now. They certainly look nice, and have cable tidy holes. If I had to choose though, I would have the stand4 for a bit more support and chunkiness. From what I have read they are good quality and nice finishes but do err on the more expensive side. Not too many dealers I think in the UK so would have to be a mail order job depending where you live. Infact I think this afternoon Iam going to trawl again for some stands. I found a load a while back but have forgotten the name of the companies I found, and I did find some stuff that really rivalled the dyanudios at a better price! DOH! If I find anything nice that would suit your speakers or any other stand mount Ill pop it here.

edited for spelling.

Tarquin, fyi Audio Excellence seemed to have a good relationship with their Dynaudio rep and access to his demo stock units.

FInally got my hands on the latest mag, read the active speakers section and was surprised to see Dynaudio Focus 110A got 4 stars so that means AVI ADM9 are better value then Focus 110, I also read comments from Simon that they probably have a value of 2K in comparison with similarly priced separates.

Now I am thinking if anyone was able to compare these with ATC SMC11, if they have similar sound signature, I read somewhere on the hifi forums that Ashley James was ex-ATC exec wondering if he is ordering the AVI from same Mfg in China 😉

In other news, our AVI ADM9.1 test pair is now up for sale on eBay

And yes, I can break House Rules to list them. After all, we're 100% sure of the seller!

Hmm ! too late now I wish I had taken the buy it now options : -), anyway can these be shipped to NL?

Best to keep the questions to eBay....but i'll answer this first one: yes, we can ship abroad, but not free postage - would need to calculate international postage/insurance cost post-purchase. Rest assured it would be at cost to us (at business rate), with no mark-up. If I get a lot of international postal queries, I may ask our post room for some estimates...

Can you ship this to Portugal?

Well someone had to ask. Almost every bit of hifi I ever look at on ebay has someone from Portugal asking if it can be sent to them.

When I sold my neg scanner the first question was 'Can you ship this to Portugal?'

Portugal must be swimming in used hifi (and neg scanners) from the UK.

...we share the same (good) taste!
