I have a Marantz MCR510 and want to add a CD player but haven't got room to add a separate, will a USB CD drive added work or a personal CD player connected through the front jack plug from headphone socket ? Or if anyone knows of any other way I'd love to hear from you. Thanks.

Hi there.the headphone socket will not work...it's an output and a USB cd drive will need software and pc to tell it what to do basically.you could try a slimline dvd player from one of the supermarkets,it won't be sonically brilliant but it'll play Cd's . plug it into the auxiliary rca input with some phono leads or the marantz might have an optical input which the dvd player should definitely have.good luck.

I don't understand why you want to add a CD player to a streaming system. If you want to listen to your CDs, why not just rip them to your PC or Laptop, and stream them to the Marantz?

Ah that is an easy one to answer, my wife doesn't or can't use anything later than a CD player so when I advanced with technology didn't realize it was going to be a problem. She just likes a slot to put a CD into and plays. I might just end up with a separate portable for her if I can't get anything to play through the system. Thanks.

Hi Rich

Yes it has but I haven't any room near the system as I have sound bar, tv, DVDs, sky box all occupying the space. I know the DVD plays CD but that is too complicated for my beloved, she can only work a standard CD player. Thanks.

Sell the M-CR510, it must have some value, and then buy a 2nd hand M-CR603 or 610*, or even a new M-CR611 (available for as low as £349 from Sevenoaks).

* You can pick up a 610 from Richer Sounds for £299 these days.
