Hi all,

im looking to upgrade my amp in the next 4 months or so, to match with a pair of castle Harlech 2's. I like a warm class a type sound and so have narrowed down my choice to these 2 amps. Anyone heard both of them or got any strong opinions about either of them?also has anyone any advice buying direct from them, as both are non-uk based?

My thoughts on the Abrahamsen are well documented its a superb amp. I changed from a Sugden A21SE pure class A. The XTZ looks fascinating and I had it on my radar. I would certainly have given it a whirl. Both amazing value. Your more than welcome to demo the Abrahamsen at my place.

If you're into that sort of thing like that XTZ, you might also give Jungson amps a look.

Yeah did see them but couldn't see any uk retailers of the jungson. And yeah I've been reading with interest iq speakers experiences with the abrahamsenaudio kind of what got me hooked in the first place. I've heard the sugden and owned a mf a100 class a amp in the past, is the abrahamsenaudio similar in sound to those amps?

Sigh..........*kiss2*

Hi there - could you remind me where you are based for any demos. I am around the Leicester area. I am interested in listening to your IPL kit speakers and the Abrahamsen amp. Is it an integrated amp and do they do any versions which may just be used as a power amp?

cheers tonky

Ho tonky I'm in Cheltenham Glos. Yes they do a V40 power amp same chassis. Youre more than welcome to come down for a demo. More details on the web site.

Thanks, I may just take you up on that later in the year, though I'm down in cornwall so will have to time it right! Good luck BTW On your attempts to bring abrahamsenaudio to the uk, I hope it all works out.

Well I heard the XTZ with XTZ and B&W speakers, and imo it's an awesome amp - defenately better then the mainstream offerings in that price bracket, if you don't mind the lack of a headphone socket, the size and it's class A heat generating skills (you CAN force it into AB mode though). It sounds great. Haven't heard the Abrahamsen.

You need too! But you're right on the mainstream amazing just don't get hung up on brands which you are obviously not!

LAB REPORT

Phase angles are kept within +/-30 degrees and the impedance an acceptable minimum of 6 Ohm at 270Hz.

You can drive these speakers with just about any amp above 60Wpc RMS. So why would you buy a 22kg sumo wrestler like that XTZ, burning money in the name of Class A? I'd go for the Norwegian 16kg Bruce Lee.

Focus.
