I needed to put together a simple sound system so that I could listen to music and watch movies on a flat LCD screen.

So I scrounged around my storeroom and found these "old" equipment that had since been replaced by newer ones in my home. They were still in pretty good condition:

1) Denon 3810 AVR

2) Mordaunt-Short CS-1 surround speakers

I did buy a new Wharfedale Power Cube PS8 subwoofer (8", downward firing) and an Audiolab 8000CDE CD player.

What surprised me was the sound the above system produced. Clear, powerful and sweet! I sure didn't expect the little Mordaunt-Short bookshelf speakers to sound so good; they were surround speakers used in my previous home theatre setup. What they lacked in the low frequencies were made up for by the sub.

Here is a picture of the simple setup.

Sorry, made some mistakes in listing the equipment model.

1) the AV amp is a AVC 2530, not the AVR 3810. Never owned a 3810. It was an AVR 3802 that I accidentally sold away.

2) the subwoofer is the Wharfedale SW-100 8" downward firing, not the PC-8.
