A gap in the market

There seems to me to be a missing gap in the download market.

You can buy mp3's or equivalent from itunes etc, or you can rip your own hi res lossless files from a CD. You can even download a HD audio file (at a price) that supposedly offers 'better than CD' quality.

But why can't you easily buy alac or flac files online? Why do you have to buy a CD to get this quality file.? Why can't you buy single tracks at higher file sizes than 320kbs? Why does iTunes not yet offer aac and alac for its downloads?

We supposedly have the internet speeds now with fibre broadband. We have the quality choice with video content, so why is there no middle ground for music files.

Im always in the dilemna when buying single music tracks. Do i buy the CD album to get the odd track or two that i like to rip at CD quality in alac or do i buy an inferior 250 or 320 mp3 at convenience?

Or am i missing something?
