Nice set up and good layout. Not sure about the floral stuff everywhere though, but suppose you can't have it all your own way 🙂

Although I dont intend to 'rip' my sytem apart - a reason for posting pix is to elicit comments for minor tweaks. Would a big hole in the front AV furniture help (presently port is 'socked'!); position of speakers - too close to TV / walls ?; Toe in for speakers? Is the centre back speaker behind the setee any use? Comments appreciated.

Cheers

PF30 for my two subs now in place and a PF50 on order for the front kit. Sounds good to me now but I'm sure I can tweak it some more ! My partner enjoys the sound as much as me and visitors seem to enjoy the new lounge.

Cheers all

Rob,

Nice set-up. How do you find the Yamaha musically? Do you listen to much music or is it mainly used for home cinema? The reason I ask is I've always gone for more musical AV receivers as I'm not (unfortunately) in a position to have a seperate hi-fi set-up from the daily home cinema one. I looked at a Yamaha a few years back and was impressed, but in the end opted for an Onkyo. Its always in the back of my mind to try one when I look at my next upgrade.

Cheers,

Nick

Nice layout you got there.

I have the same speakers and have just got the 2065 amp I was toying with two subs, do you find 2 subs overpowering or more refined ?

Well '1585' - Hi Nicholas - I do find the Yamy more musical than my old Denon 1906 though the main improvement was with the sound stage and detail I guess. I recon that the room dimensions and positioning play the biggest part and with fairly old ears I think detailed comparison is difficult. I know I am too old when I find it impossible to move the sub anymore.

Thanks for your comments

Hya Stu. So its you thats stolen all my kit then ! Its great to find someone with much the same kit to compare notes. I would be interested to see your layout and know what twaeks you have found of benefit. The subs well - I had an old Yamaha sub from an earlier system which I set to quite low and it seems to give a nice kick - not too overpowering if adjusted carefully. Still experimenting with large/small - currently set up with fronts large and 80Hz crossover. I dont use the PEQ either. i would be interested in knowing your ideal settings and I am going to keep fiddling with the toe in following the Spendor debate in an earlier thread. Recon one of my biggest problems may be the centre sat 'in a box' - I may need to remove the back of the cabinet (when my partner is out).

PS - New Sky anytime + is interesting but only SD

Cheers

Hi Robin,

I haven't had time to play with this amp much as yet its just mic set up at the moment my front L & R speakers are 3.2m apart and toe'd in 20-25 degrees, my centre is also in a cabinet presumeably with enough space behind for the speaker to work as i've had no problems with mine sounding boomy.

Crossover is set at 100Hz and my surrounds are all wall mounted 130cm up from the floor tilted downwards.

I'll post some updated pictures in the next few days on my old thread from 2 year ago if i can find it as i've redecorated since then, once i've finished calibrating the tv that is !

Unfortunately my room is a compromise all round as its not an idea shape but there you go can't have everything i suppose !

Well Stu - from your last post your either up at 0430am or not in the UK! I would like to see your pix when you have time to compare notes. I have been changing a few things - toeing in much more to crossover just in front of the listening position; setting all the speakers to large as the auto suggests; taking a little low frequency from the centre to make speech more natural. Crossover still on 80Hz. I do find now that using 'straight' or 'pure sound' is a lot more open and natural than using the PEQ. I guess I never quite trust my own ears but is this why we 'tinker'?

Reversing sub phase seems to make no difference too - is that a good sign or bad I wonder.

Do keep in touch with your experiments too - we may find the perfect setup? (Yea right!).

Always interested to hear of suggestions. And now I recon the bluray is dying - it refused to play Avatar last night and loading other discs takes so very long. May look at the S570 today. And I think it247 have run out of pf40s - no reply yet from an email tho so not so impressed with their service.

Cheers all

Not in the uk ? its more like the "land that time forgot" here in Norfolk !!
Woke up on the couch at 4.15 and decided to have a look on the forums before going to bed, sad i know !

You may want to try updating the firmware on the blu ray player first, check out the "hot deals" section for some blu ray player bargains, best bet for the pf30/40 is gonna be ebay now i expect.

Cheers

Mmmmm - had a lie today till 5.30. Firmware up to date but yes - pf30/40 I recon deals are gone too. Best just get down to watching some good movies. Im getting more convinced that using the Pure settings are giving best results except for Dolby ProLogic on SD Sky. Or at least using the equalizer just to balance the centre which needs more air I recon - pass me the saw ...

Cheers for all thoughts.
