I had a b****y cousin pop over to watch a blu-ray movie and without me knowing, fiddled around with my Pana DB player and Onkyo 605 and now, the HD display on the amp has gone. Everything now only shows as Dolby D.

This was the very issue I had to grapple with a couple of months ago (it literally drove me mad!!!) and had it sorted with the help of the forum members. I've tried to get it back (including looking at the old thread) but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Pana DB35 Setting:

Sound

Dynamic Range Compression (OFF)

Digital Audio Output - Dolby D/Dolby D + /Dolby True HD (Bitstream), DTS/DTS-HD (Bitstream), MPEG Audio (Bitstream)

BD-Video Secondary Audio (OFF)

PCM Down Conversion (OFF)

Downmix (Surround encoded)

Connection

HDMI Connection

HDMI Video Mode (ON)

HDMI Video Format (Automatic)

24p Output (OFF) - Mine is a HD Ready TV

HDMI Output Range (Enhanced)

HDMI Audio Output (ON)

Component Resolution (1080i)

Onkyo 605 Settings:

Listening Mode Preset (DVD)

Analog/PCM (Last valid)

Dolby Digital (Dolby Digital)

DTS (DTS)

D.F. 2ch (Last Valid)

D.F. Mono (Last Valid)

Multich PCM (Last Valid)

192k/176.4k (Last valid)

Dolby TrueHD (Dolby TrueHD)

DTS-HD Master Audio (DTS-HD MSTR)

Hardware Setup

HDMI Audio Out (OFF)

What is wrong with my settings?

Thx in advance.

as someone has said the settings look ok. Have you tried playing around with the listening modes whilst something is playing.

Yes, played around with 'listening modes' several times - still no success. Switching back to factory setting's would be a last resort if all else fails.

Been through the settings several times, and I just can't find the fault....it is so frustrating

Yes, all Blu-ray discs with DTS-HD Master or True-HD. Nads, can you confirm that your settings are like mine exactly, if you don't mind please?

Thx.

No, I haven't. That can't be the cause right, as it was all fine before this latest screw up...

Have you made sure that the HDMI cable has not come slightly loose. That happened with my Sony 350 when I connected a Cat 5 cable to do a firmware update. There was picture but no sound. I must have caught the cable whilst trying to locate the ethernet socket.

nsygrinner - checked that. all cables are secure...sound is all there except that the onkyo display now no longer shows DTS-HD Master or True-HD, but just Dolby D.

Can the experts like Andrew, Claire, Dominic or Andy provide any insight into my predicament please?

No-one called Claire here, Andy on holiday, Dominic shouting at a PR person over a non-delivered review sample, so that just leaves me. And from your description of the settings I can't see anything obviously wrong...

The settings seem okay. Have you altered the inputs on the Onkyo to accept signals from HDMI rather than coax or analogue?

Andrew - My bad, it's Clare.

Stack - yes. I've also carried out the latest firmware update (V 1.4) this evening. Situation is still status-quo.

You have my sympathy, as tracking down something like this can be extremely difficult.

I assume that cycling through the listening modes when playing a disc doesn't bring up HD sound options?

Might be worth unplugging from the mains for a while. Sometimes works with electronics? Personally I would just bite the bullet and reset the amp.

ElectroMan - tried that, mate....I know I'm listening to DTS-HD master with Die Hard 4.0. It shows when I use the audio button on the remote of the Pana DB35, but for some reason, this used to show on the display of the amp, but it just shows DTS or Dolby D (with True-HD).

Last resort - reset the amp and blu-ray player
