I'm planning a loft conversion and having the room whilst it will have an en suite) as a home cinema. At a rough guess the room will be nice uniform size, I'd guess the size will be around 30x20ft, maybe a bit more.

PI know about 5.1, but have no experience of other configs. My idea is an 8.2 setup.

Thefront 3 speakers, one each down the sides, surround backs and one centre back. And probably two subs.

Will the processor/AR take a 5.1 soundtrack and shift it around appropriately ?

A more conventional arrangement would be front three, surrounds to left and right of listening position, surround backs behind, and subwoofer or subwoofers. Perhaps using dipole or bipole speakers for the surrounds (to the side) and the surround backs, to give a more diffuse soundfield by spreading the sound out along the walls on which/near to which they're mounted.

And yes, receivers or amps designed to drive this many speakers will convert 5.1 soundtracks to feed such an array.

Dipoles look to be quite important for what I want. Did a quick google and couldn't find active dipoles does anyone make them ?
