Hi - I'm watching a pair of Sony 70's speakers on Ebay and the photos show the two speaker parts inside the speakers listed as:

8 ohm NOM. 2w, and 8 ohm 5w

2w and 5w in each speaker - so they have a total of 7 watts per speaker? That doesn't seem to be much power?
I have a 2 x 30 (8 ohm) amp....would they be compatible and OK at moderate volumes?

(unfortunately, there is no model number on them and the seller is none the wiser)

Any clues welcome!

It would be a guessing game, but I'd say they are 2 way 50watt speakers with text missing. I'd avoid because I could be totally wrong and buy someting you are more sure of spec wise.

These are in your budget, new and you know what you are getting

Thanks Muljao - they look great, similar to these that I'm watching.

OK, so 100w is OK with a 30w amp then.....this is all *so* confusing!!
Think it's time to press the click button - thanks so much for your help on this.

...just reading the reviews on the Mordaunts - appartently is suggests that the speakers are to be used with an 80 watt amp and mine is only 30.....would they still be OK?

I didn't check your ebay as the ones I linked are new.

The wattage on the speakers refer to the amount of power they can in theory handle. So yes your 30 watt amp into 8 ohms, in theory sends 30 watts to these speakers at max. All no problem.

Are those powered speakers??

If they are you don't want to be connecting them to an amplifier.

Have you got the link to them?
