Sorry that you believe your "sounds better" item. I recently have invested in a pair of Dali Rubicon 2Cs driven by the Hub with Bluesound module, a pair of Dynaudio Focus 20s with a Bluesound Node and a pair of the Buchardt A10s also driven by a Bluesound Node. All of these Danish systems sound different from each other and from my main systems (3 sets of mainly NAD driven Revel Gem 2s). However, my friends have liked different ones in equal numbers. There is certainly no consensus on "sounds better."
I think it makes sense, because sound isn’t necessarily perceived in the same way for all people.
Maybe people have hearing differences (maybe some has some slight loss on certain frequencies ?) that they don't know about and maybe people just prefer some some and hear some frequencies more than others.
At the same time I do think there is some objectivity to be had for example in the quality of a mix and the mastering of music where some degree of consensus (among professionals) can be agreed upon. But even there some aspect might be around preference.
I do think we many times think of hearing as one and the same for all, but that is certainly not the case. Hearing can also change (get worse) over time.
I ended up in aloud venue a couple of months ago and didn't have my ear plugs with me. Decided to leave early (should have left directly...) leaving my friends behind, but it was too late. My tinnitus I had for three years is worse and I'm sound sensitiv to some sounds (hyperacusis), which sound louder than normal and can act make the ears hurt.
Can't listen to music like before – for example distorted guitars (which I used to like) doesn't work for my ears anymore.
🙁
So, I'm thinking sometimes it might not just be the "taste" of music that affects how the individual experience music, can also depend on the biological state of the ears and how the person's brain processes sound.
Anyway, sorry for rambling.
🙂
But take care of your ears and don't overexpose them to sound, be it "not so loud" for an extended time or"too loud" for a short time. The conditions that can follow can be truly horrible and life changing for the worse.
