40W4500 Vs 40X3500 - Both at £999.99 - £1099.99

Hi there,

Still on the look out for a good deal and this has ben offered to me - 40W4500 with Bluray BDP350 £1099.99 with 5 year warranty OR

40X3500 for 999.99 with 5 year warranty.

The X is the flag ship TV but is it really much better than the new W4500?

any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

I would be tempted to get the W4500 with the excelent free blu-ray player. Especially from the rave reviews off the magazine.

The X3500 was "no better" than the older W4000 tv, from the mag's review. The W4500 is an improvement on the W4000 so I would deffinately get the W4500 package.

I hope this is ok for you. Sony Tottenham will also sell the package without the 5 year warranty at £100 less shoudl you decide to have it with just 1 year and save more money.. - Most equipment, electrical equipment fail in the first few weeks of use if something is wrong with the TV - and after reading around - iun 3+ years time this TV will be worth peanuts unfortunately..

If you are after a PS3 then you could always do what I did and get a free PS3 with a new mobile phone contract. Lot's of online shops have deals like this with your choice of free gifts, 360's,PS3,sat nav,laptop's etc....

I got a £30 18month contract with a free Nokia 5310 and PS3. I was paying £30 a month on my old mobile and got less minutes than I do now. They send you a voucher in the post once your locked into your contract, approx 2 weeks. Then you just send it back with 2 forms of ID and you get the PS3 a few days later.

I've had mine about 6 months now, there are better deals around now if you shop around.

Hi there,

Well i picked up the TV after work and got home and unpacked everything.. On first impressions it looks MASSIVE - especially when you are in a shop and they have 46 - 52"s next to them.. was worried it might be too small - but it is huge and lovely in my living room now.

It took about 45 minutes for the set up to go through everythinh including Guide Plus, which takes the longest to set up and download stuff to your TV.

I need ot buy a HDMI cable for the Bluray player so will comment later.

I set up my TV visually to what i like the most with some guides on this website and i habe to say I am more than happy with it and SD so far looks good to what i have seen in the last 10 minutes

One thing i hope experts might be able to help me with though -- I have Virgin HD - and when i watch BBC HD - and i go to the set up of the TV and exit it - it says 1080i and not 1080p - Can anyone know whay this is please.. would be a shame to have HD channel and not have the full works..

next step the player hopefully before the weekend..

I think the V+ box only outputs a 1080i signal, so that'll be why.

Can anyone tell me actually, can you upscale a 1080i signal to 1080p? Or does it have to be an SD signal to upscale to 1080p?

No, 1080i is still HD. It's just not full HD. If you go to the settings, you can see that your V+ box only outputs 720p or 1080i - you choose which you'd prefer.

In the settings in V+ i have 4 HDMI HD choices - 720 or 1080 or 720 wide or 1080 wide. No mention if its i or p.

I guess the output is only interlace for V+ then.

I have now connected my BluRay player but only Component so tried both 720p and 1080i settings and watched Spiderman 3 when the sand man erects for the first time and well JUST AWESOME!!

Cant wait to get HDMI cable for full experience..

Very happy with everything for now hehe..

Next step in the next few months will be surround sound...

No. Broadcast high-definition TV can only be transmitted in 720p or 1080i - there simply isn't the bandwidth to broadcast in 1080p. No-one transmits 1080p material on TV, not the BBC, Virgin, Sky or anyone else in the world. Full HD, 1080p video is only available on Blu-ray or the web.

That said, the quality of BBC HD material is usually pretty good, so it should still look fab on your new TV once you get that HDMI cable installed. FYI, I have my V+ box set at 720 (which is progressive) rather than 1080 (interlaced), but the choice is yours.

Thank you Andy - TV shows 720p i guess from your experience this is a better definition compared to 1080i...
