Just wondering when we may see any 3d projectors come to light.Plenty of talk with up and coming tv's, but i fancy going down the projector route, i feel i will gain a much better experience when fully immeresed with an 80" plus screen then expanding my recent Samsung 40" lcd. I expect these to be rather expensive, hopefully they won't be much more than a decent current model, as for player PS3 will have to do for now. Upgrading the amp doesn't look to be that much more then last years models, so it really boils down to price for the projector £2000-£3000 tops for projector £500 for screen £1000 for amp and £500 for any hdmi cable upgrades and poss new standalone player.

Personally, I'd have thought 3D would've been better suited to projectors, as they fill your field of view better than a 40/50" TV would.

Nothing is available just yet, but I'm sure they'll be announced as soon as they are

I am also considering buying a projector, but I need to do a bit more research before I do; please can sombody tell me how the picture quality compares when watching both movies and sports in high definition? I love watching my football and blu-ray movies in the crystal clear high def format that a Plasma / LCD TV gives you and I would like to know if a giant projector screen produces the same quality? I appreciate that watching TV on a projector would be quite special given the size of the screen but I really would not want to lose that PQ I get when watching on my 42" LCD. The reason I ask this question is because when I've watched football in pubs on a projector, the picture has appeared to be quite dull but this may be due to a poor projector or it not being set up correctly?

Ignore pub projectors. They'll probably be old, washed out looking things which look nothing like a domestic projector. And if it is a domestic home theatre projector, it's not been designed for use in huge rooms with minimal light control, so again will look washed out.

Obviously the projector projecting a 7 or 8 foot picture won't quite be as sharp as a 40/50" plasma, but some PJ's like the Mitsubishi's are pretty damn sharp. I watched some of the last World Cup in HD on my previous projector, and it's light years ahead of standard def. Instead of the crowd looking like a Monet painting, you can make out individual people. The grass looks like grass, rather than something in water colours.

Although it depends if this years HD broadcast is more compressed than the one I watched 4 years ago. Probably.

I think there's no doubt with ioncreasing amounts of light projectors start to look washed out.

However, the size of the picture and projector feel adds other qualities, plus if you can control the light then you can get a picture just as good or better than a Tv with a projector.

Ok great thanks guys. How much should I expect to pay for the screen? I assume these are sold seperately from the projector? And also, is performance a factor when it comes to screens; are some better than others or does it not matter? ... Sorry for sounding like an amateur, but I really know nothing about projectors.
