Hi,

Looking for some help with choosing a marantz amp.

I really like the sound and feel of Marantz and I've seen a 2nd hand PM7200 for 200 and a 2nd hand PM17 for 450

What's the best choice (price / quality like)?

Please some advise....

I don't think youd go far wrong with either , Marantz are a classy brand who hardly get a bad review......I think the 17 is much higher end but either one is awesome.....have a look on google im sure there would still be reviews available

Okay, so are these the "stock" models, or the KI branded versions? £200 is a tad high for the former and £450 might be okay depending on condition. I'd be inclined to expect "mint" condition for both. The original 7200 went for about £300, the PM-17 was about £800 I think, the KI clocked in at £1100 from (very likely bad) memory.

I always thought the 17 looked very smart, but had the chops too apparently. The 7200 will give you 25w out of its' 95 in Class A. Although I think you can run it purely as a Class A amp (selector option). Can you hear them by any chance?

What you really need is.........

Get the PM7200, i consider it to be a legendary amp for peanuts. I still have my PM7000 (same amp minus class a mode). Its a belter of an amp and have no plans to part with it.

In fact one day i plan to upgrade to the PM7200 signature edition i like the amp that much.

Cant comment on the PM17, sorry.

Agree.

The 7200 is a great amp. If you can get one for £150 ish than that would be a more reasonable price IMO.

The PM17 is brilliant too, albeit higher-end when new. If you have the cash, go for the 17, but you wouldn't be disappointed with the 7200...

Now, if you find any of these, do let me know.......

The legendary Model 7 preamp and 8B power amp.

Introduced in the late 1950s, this was the amplifier to have in the 60s. Relatively affordable too, at least by modern hi-end standards, the 8B is a little later.

great pics guys marantz are an awsome brand .there are one or two pm7200 amps on the bay lovely amps i have to say, i bet the class a sounds awsome
