24 season 8

pete.g:excellent timing - SKY HD being installed that day!!!

You will be hoping the milder weather starts so there are no delays! I'm counting down to this one. Season 7 was much better than 6. Still a bit jaded though up to the early ones which had some real shock value which they toned down somewhat. I've not looked at wiki for the plot lines etc. as that spoils it for me. It will be good to watch Jack in HD for the first time for me.

10 days to go and counting!

Don't forget there are 2 episodes on premier night........It's also on Sky One HD at the same time this season, not like season 7.

24 - Without a doubt the best drama series on TV ever. I absoloutly love it.

I've got series 1-6 on dvd. I'll get 7 once the price drops to the same value as 1 - 6. Series 8 will be sky plussed for now!

Of course some series are better than others and you now know what you are in for. Terrorist plots, Twists, turns, and someone good will die or be a nasty person but still a cracking programme.

Only series to come near it is prison break, which is also totally brilliant.

100% agreed, without a doubt the best thing I have seen on TV.

And the PQ on Sky1 HD for tonight's Season 8 premiere was outstanding - far cleaner and less grainy than the Season 7 Blu-ray. Sound was nice and punchy too.

Here's to another few months of living for Sundays!

I love 24 but you lot obviously haven't watched Sopranos otherwise you would not even hint at 24 being the best show ever.

Nah, Hole in the Wall's HD broadcast just isn't as effective.

But seriously - great-quality HD transmission. And good to see the usual Fox trick of recycling actors from (mostly sci-fi) series. Not only do we have Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, there was an early exit for Stargate SG-1's Ba'al. And then there's Bubba from Forrest Gump heading up CTU.

Ah yes, load of old nonsense, but i'm sure to watch the whole damn lot.....

Mmmm. I never fancied the sopranos for some reason. I've decided to give it a go. Just ordered it on lovefilm. Then again I never fancied 24. I just happened to catch season 3 by accident and have been hooked ever since.

If anyone out there is a 24 lover and hasn't seen prison break I strongly recommend this as well.

Oh one horrible thing about watching 24 on sky is the non-stop adverts. Sometimes its only on for 5 minutes and along come another lot!

I'll probably wait until the discs come out then watch it all in one go, but my only reservation about season 8 is this... has anyone ever noticed that since the early days it's only the odd-numbered seasons of 24 that are any good?

Season 1 - brilliant; season 2 - good, then... 3 - amazing; 4 - not very good; 5 - amazing; 6 - TERRIBLE; 7 - fine return to form; 8 - ?

Sorry but got to disagree - Season 7 was the worst to date. Each twist got more and more ridiculous as the series went on. I was glad when it was all over. The only good thing throughout that series was John Voight.

Not sure about Season 8 at the moment. It's like they've having to guide you through the story and the history of the characters by the hand...

Oh, and what's with CTU's new swanky HQ?? I think all the US funding for counter terrorism went on those glass partitions and computer screens...

Season 6 gets the clanger award for me. 7 was great. I enjoyed the first 2 episodes of 8 greatly, even though we all knew that you know who wasn't going to get that flight to you know where with you know who. [Just in case I spoiled it for someone!]

I must admit I prefer watching the box sets and 4/5 episodes a night, I might save up a few weeks worth of this season......

I must say I quite fancy The Sopranos, you get get the lot for £50 or so.

Hi can i ask all the 24 fans a question. I have only seen 24 series1 all the way through. I loved it and was hooked. I dunno why i have never watch the rest. Anyway have sky 1 now so can get 24. Have recorded the 1st 2 episodes of series 8. Do you reckon i should watch all the previous series before watching the new ones, or will i understand it and enjoy it just as much without seeing series 2 - 7. Cant decide if i should start watching or go back to series 2.

You should probably watch 2 - 5 to get the whole character background. After that you can skip around, and I really would give 6 a swerve if I were you. 3 and 5 are the best, with 4 not as quite as good, but the relationships in 5 only really make sense if you've seen 4.

Clear? Ha.

In the first series, something happens, but really slowly.

In the next six, just about the same thing happens, equally slowly.

In series eight - well, you get the idea...

Started watching ep1 on Sky Anytime ( to miss the ads and the channel ident) but realised that it didn't have a 5.1 soundtrack. Fortunately I had also recorded the Sky 1 HD broadcast version which did. Picture quality was great too. Anytime quality has been pretty rubbish recently, with sound dropouts and picture break ups the norm.

2 to 5 then agree skip 6 - they changed the story arc halfway through! Just read the synopsis on wikipedia. Then 7, then keep these 8 episodes for afters.

Enjoy!

I personally think Season 6 is somewhat unfairly slammed by just about everyone - granted it's not the series' finest hour, but every season of the show has strengths and weaknesses. The main problem with 6 is that the writers outdid themselves far too early - after the 2 cataclysmic events that happen in rapid succession in the 4th episode, the season very quickly runs out of steam. By the end it's all a bit of a farce, but it's by no means as painful as some make it out to be (this is 24, after all!)

And as for the rest, in my estimation:

Day 1: Very good, sagging a little just before the series-defining finale.

Day 2: Stronger season overall, hampered only by Kim's hopelessly inept and irrelevant side-story.

Day 3: Decent first half, tremendous second half, with some of the series' best episodes.

Day 4: Weak-ish season overall, which tries to overhaul the established formula, but then does some serious back-tracking halfway through and ends up exactly as before by the end. Has its moments though.

Day 5: The best season by a country mile. Consistently sensational.

Day 7: A great start slowly dissolves into a very average season.

Day 8: 2 episodes in, and a decent if unspectacular start. Hoping for the best though!

Can you tell I'm a 24 nut?

I would agree on series 6. Thats why I classed it as my least favourite (and not the worst). I think if you had never seen 24 and saw series 6 you would love it. 24 has been a victim of its own success. The previous series had been so good that anything that drops below that standard gets unfairly critisized (wish i could spull).

Bit like ronaldo not having an amazing game!

Bump!

Heading into the final three episodes of 24 ever, I'm keen to hear people's views on Season 8 thus far.

For my money, it has been among the best. Granted, there have been many missteps along the way (the Dana Walsh /Jenny Scott storyline of the first half chief among these), but the writers have turned things around in pretty spectacular fashion in the last few weeks. Since they brought Charles Logan back (a genius move), 24 has been pretty much as good as it ever was, and I'm so glad that it has regained a measure of its greatness in time for the season finale.

Any other fans who would like to share their views?
