gel,

You'll find full specs on Vera's European website. Click the pic below for the link

It took me a couple of reads to get what you were saying there

I could not seeing any weights mentioned though?

Looks like the speakers have got even slimmer though

2 x 6 watt, last time i'm sure it was 2X10 watt. and then the sub one.

Cheers

I have actually seen Vera in real life - several times and in her swimming costume too

she liked to go for a swim in the Queen Mary 2 indoor swimming pool.

You are John Prescott AICM £5, but agreed it seems that Panasonic is yet to decide how much its TVs should weigh. Out with the scales again please, Mr Parsons...

No, i don't have a Jag, my dad does though

Is there no 46VT30? that was the size i would have been tempted by.. but looks like i'll have to stick with 42... no place for a 50" unfortunately

Definitely no 46in VT30. In fact there are fewer 46in plasmas across the Panasonic 2011 range; not that much demand, it seems (many people simply move up to a 50in set, especially at flagship level).

Clare Newsome:Here in the UK we don't like a set/stand with 'lean', it appears
emotion-3.gif

Never understood why anyone would want a TV that leans. After all, you don't go to the cinema and watch a screen there with a lean so what purpose would it serve in a home environment?

My retailer did say he'd swap my 42VT20 for a 46VT20 plus cash.. but he suggested to wait for this years models.. may get back onto him again to see..

Not noticeably on the TVs, but very much so on the tops of some the new Blu-ray players... Will see if I can find a detail shot.

I think you may hope in vain: large-screen OLEDs are still far too expensive to be a viable mainstream technology, not least because the reject rate in production is so high.

with all those tech boffins out there they should come up with something new this year i`m sure i saw some prototypes in early 2010 well maybe sony will get there first in 2012 (lets hope the world doesnt end by then!)

Ah, those boffins...

Looks unlikely that large-screen OLEDs will arrive for a good while, although some companies have shown prototype or concept models in the past.

And if some (rapidly denied) reports over the past day or so are to be believed, Sony is concentrating more on bringing down the manufacturing cost of its TVs, not going for more expensive ways of making them.

Yep. A very senior Panasonic exec confirmed last night (as reported on this site recently) that the company isn't making any money from its TV business, yet consumers expect more and more features (for less cost) every year...

Id happily pay more for a tv with less features if it has solid stable blacks and excellent motion handling..

I believe LG have indicated they will bring on a 42 inch OLED screen in 2012. Haven't seen any indications from Panasonic though.

I'd happily take a bare panel plus HDMI sockets and one USB for firmware updates.

No tuner(s) (so no CI slots or USB HDD recording), no speakers, no internet connectivity, especially not for closed-system portals with a tenth of the capabilities of a browser, no DLNA, no media playback from SD or USB, no analogue socketry.

I already have devices that connect via HDMI to do all of the above that I actually want, and wish I didn't have to pay for redundant inferior ones in a "TV" just to get a panel.

Oh, and especially no 3D 😉

Dear Clare, Can you please confirm that the new Panasonic DT30 LED /LCD has a full array back lighting LED and not edge lighting as Im a little confused as to which it is from your "what HiFi" recent Blog on the new 2011 launches.

Thanking you in advance of any help Steve.

I'll have to check on Monday; didn't bring my product info packs home with me
emotion-2.gif

But I distinctly remember being (pleasantly) surprised at how many full-array LED backlit LCDs there were in the new line-up.

Thank you for such a quick reply Clare, Im looking at buying a 37" set but not one single maker yet has made a 37" full array backlit LED / LCD, and even Panasonic UK web site does not tell me, I'll look forward to popping by Monday, Here's Hoping 🙂

Thanks again Steve.

My heart really bleeds for Panasonic

It doesn't make sense - IF this really is the case - to roll out a multitude of different models Europe-wide or Worldwide. Have one model in different sizes for a budget, midrange and top-end range (3 in all) and see how they do with that. Surely this will reduce production costs if nothing else?

IF Panasonic is not convinced of the merits of LCD, pull out and concentrate on plasma. I'm not wholely convinced that everyone wants all these bells and whistles they keep adding either : concentrate on the high quality basics : picture and sound; the extras can be added with ancillary devices such as blu-ray recorders etc.

You ought to point out to your exec that a good revenue stream for their television range would be software upgrades!! Then we wouldn't have to moan all the time when they get things wrong - we can pay for an improved performance at a later date.

Perhaps this would help pay for a more customer focused, friendly customer services in the UK!?

emotion-5.gif

My current wishlist would be a tuner box upgrade for my Z1 to feature Viera Connect. internet WiFi and revised software to remove floating blacks and other picture gremlins (faces/backgrounds flashing), and make a serious stab at reducing false contours where they break into rogue colours (purple/green). THIS will be a long time coming if we wait for the generousity of Panasonic to deliver it!
emotion-43.gif

This is but one example, there must be other recent models that would benefit from new software. We are used to paying for software upgrades on computers, the TV should be no different. THEN when Panasonic listen they can be assured there is profit to be made WHEN they deliver what we want!
